@Barbs OK, even if what you are saying is true, which result is more valid? Presumably only the one that gets you the result you want. Of course there's bias in a poll, that's a given, but if, like the OP, you start a poll, you should at least have the courtesy to believe the result rather than make excuses for it.

Maybe the first post should have been prefaced with: "Here's a poll. If the vote gets me the result I want, great; if not I will think of reasons why it's flawed. I'm not really interested in what you think unless you vote yes". I'm not just moaning, I genuinely find it an affront to democracy that people do this.

Food/Drink/Dining is not gender orientated and many people of both sexes are very interested in the subject. For example, look how many popular programs are on TV that deal with cooking. IMO there is no doubt cooking is a popular subject.

I quite understand AVForums specifically deals with A/V equipment and will therefore attract only those who have an interest or hobby or work in that field. However, I'm surprised there isn't a Food/Drink/Dining type forum as it is a major subject in it's own right and is something we all actively participate in.

Having said that, it could be because food/drink/dining plays such a big part in our lives is the very reason why it is not considered as a suitable subject for a stand-alone forum board.

There may have been 900 plus views, but not necessarily unique. I really don't mind if it is 100% against. If people at least vote.

It's something that might shape the future of the forum. I find it an interesting subject, but am not passionate about it particularly. I haven't been starting food based posts any more than any other member. But it just seemed a good topic to draw in a wider audience.

The suggestion was for a poll. So here it is.

Perhaps it should not have been about a particular topic. Maybe 'should we try to encourage more members' is more appropriate.

I don't see the negative votes for a food forum as necessarily a vote against expanding the forum. Or at least I don't think that seems to be the case. The most cited reason is the impact on GC.

Not everyone is wanting to talk about food. I get that. I'm not going to campaign hard until I get the result it appears I want. The pressure would really be on if it was granted. It would need the good people of GC to help get it to a critical mass, so having them on side is a huge positive.

The bigger picture is it might help secure the future of the forum by introducing new members which I hope everyone would wish.

I still think it could fill a gap a Food Forum but maybe not yet.
All I can say is I found the GC and I am happy I did. Just hope I can read it all.....page 1

Yeah, would be nice to see if there's any life in it.

Be a good place to ask for advice, post up nice recipes, reviews of kitchen equipment, and maybe also restaurant reviews.

Barbs77 Publish time 26-11-2019 05:26:48

And post pictures of items of kitchen equipment that we have in the drawers that we bought but can no longer remember what they are meant to do

I guess the time is nearly up but just in case there are any last minute Votes for or against a Food Forum time to speak up there seems to of been a lot of interest in food today.
