This is generally what happens whenever the subject is broached.A lot of people have a passing interest in the foody threads and read and post in them when they come across them in GC, but aren't sufficiently interested to seek them out in a dedicated sub-forum, so they feel they would miss out. Like the Holiday forum, which I never visit, but I used to regularly browse the threads when they were in GC.There is also the feeling that if all the "interesting" GC content is creamed off the top into sub-forums then the main forum will decline as it will just be left full of the moans and complaints threads.
Why not put a thread up, titled 'Food & Cooking' ? see how that goes with interest and replies.
I'm not sure that would necessarily reach any conclusions though. It may group the potential food threads together (possibly) but wouldn't necessarily draw new contributors if there are less interesting or palatable topics on display.
I'm canvassing in GC as that is the board with most traffic, but if people there are happy with the status quo, then I think it may be a challenge to introduce any change.
I guess most people probably don't have a strong opinion. Perhaps if there were some incentive to change such as GC to be dropped, but I can't see that happening. It may wither at some point though if enough people lose interest.
It may be one of those things that you just need to take a punt at and hope it flies.
As long as there are Steak and Cake sub forums.
I'd be interested in a food forum... if we have enough tree hugging, animal loving, hemp wearing hippy vegetarians who are happy to share their recipes and restaurant suggestions.

Not for me. I wouldn't go looking for food threads, but I've enjoyed stumbling into some interesting ones in GC
