Well at least they are starting to sound like a political party.

I think it's important for the country that Farage stays on as leader and "tells it how it is" throughout the EU referendum campaign.

Some people like him, some don't. He's delivered on an EU referendum and under him Ukip have had their greatest success. I think you are confusing him as leader of Ukip with the campaign to leave the EU though.

I don't think it was down to him.
A factor to be fair.

I think CMD promised a referendum due to lots of his voters leaving for Ukip. I can't think of any previous Ukip leader causing such an impact. Yes a lot of it is also down to the EU being a disaster as well.

It will be interesting to see how Farage and this EU referendum will be viewed in years to come. My gut feel is Sonic's view will not stand the scrutiny of time and I suspect Europhobes will come to curse bubbling old Farage.

Cameron has been a little canny here - how does a Europhile with a largely Europhobic membership square that circle? Simple - a referendum that leads to a 'Stay in' vote. As we have seen with the Scottish and AV referendums, once one is lost there is rarely appetite for any repeat anytime soon. We are settling this issue for a generation and Farage is helping Cameron's campaign - especially with his comments today such as "put up or shut up" - by alienating huge swathes of the populace.

Is that why all the latest polls have a swing towards leaving and every new poll puts greater distance between leaving & staying in the EU?

Ukip is a sideshow now. There has been discussions on someone like James Dyson heading up the leave campaign. It won't be Farage. He delivered on a referendum. He will still be head of Ukip as he tends to be viewed as a guy down the pub rather than a manufactured politician. Some like him for that some don't.

As for the referendum itself, for the first time I think we might even be leaving. Various polls now tend to be around 50:50 with a few reckoning people do want out. The situation with Syria and immigration can only get worse and CMD is going to be calling the referendum in his mid term.
