Now will Valve go head to head with Rift S for £400? God I hope so.

thesnowdog Publish time 2-12-2019 05:16:08

I'll still only believe it when they actually start selling the things in June lol data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I'll certainly be keeping an eye on this one because I fancy an upgrade to my Rift, but I'm only willing to pay £600 max and don't want to fork out another £600 or so on a new GPU. We'll see how things go I guess. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Am I the only one thinking "don't compromise, don't keep cost down"? Leave the 'value' option to the ROFL-S. What we need is an enthusiast HMD!

That said, don't take the pdata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7s like HTC.

DisplayPort 1.2 and GTX 970 has me really concerned. If it's no better than Vive Pro resolution I'm not gonna see enough of an upgrade to be interested.

I don't think there's any point in someone like Valve competing with the Rift S. I'm sure it has its place, and will serve its purpose, but there's a big gap in the market now and it'll be very interesting if someone can fill it.

this would be fantastic... how much are a pair of base stations?a whole bundle for £600 it will be hard for me to say no!.

I'm starting to strongly suspect this is going to be a Valve version of the Rift S. Probably will be about $100 more expensive than the S, but still really just a sidegrade to the original Vive or Vive Pro with cheaper/fewer components.

It's very unlikely with the VR and GPU market as it is that this will be anything high-end. One can hope though!

I am not so sure, i am thinking closer to the vivepro.min spec may be GTX970 but reccomended is GTX 1070 which is quite a lot more powerful than the reccomended spec of the rift/riftS

the main thing holding the vivepro hmd back is the lenses from what i can tell..... i think with good quality lenses a similar res to the vivepro but with a wider FOV will still be a nice upgrade both in terms of FOV and visuals to the standard vive / rift CV1.

the cost is my concern. I hope for £600 but can definitely imagine £800.anything more than that, if it is approaching VivePro prices I aint going near it.

I know on the oculus forums (1 poster in particular) some are lamenting about the "race to the bottom" that they claim oculus are going on.... Sadly i think if VR is going to take off more people need to get VR, and for the home user (industry has not problem with higher costs) HMDs the wrong side of £500 are not going to sell in the masses.

I actually want a "compromise" between the 2 extremes, I respect the riftS and think it is a very important step for VR, but i am an enthusiast and so happy to splash a bit more cash for something higher end...... just not £1000.   Split the differnce between the 2, (£400 vs £1000) and that is something i could consider, a £700 complete package. This is the area i think valve could do well to target because right now there is no one competing in that space, leaving oculus to push VR into the main stream...

I think valve are going to charge too much however..... Thinking back to the steam machines for instance, they were far too expensive for what they were.

As long as it has nothing to do with HTC. Seriously fudge HTC! They are a nightmare to deal with. It took three months to try and get my doa vivereplaced. In the end Barclaycard stepped in and got me a refund.

I think we’ll see something like:-

Index HMD £500
Knuckle controllers £200 a pair
Base Station 2.0 £100 each

Package for £800.

Nivek TT Publish time 2-12-2019 05:16:14

If we're happy with Index then that's fine... But ''Knucklehead" has been suggested data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
