I am not so sure, i am thinking closer to the vivepro. min spec may be GTX970 but reccomended is GTX 1070 which is quite a lot more powerful than the reccomended spec of the rift/riftS
the main thing holding the vivepro hmd back is the lenses from what i can tell..... i think with good quality lenses a similar res to the vivepro but with a wider FOV will still be a nice upgrade both in terms of FOV and visuals to the standard vive / rift CV1.
the cost is my concern. I hope for £600 but can definitely imagine £800. anything more than that, if it is approaching VivePro prices I aint going near it.
I know on the oculus forums (1 poster in particular) some are lamenting about the "race to the bottom" that they claim oculus are going on.... Sadly i think if VR is going to take off more people need to get VR, and for the home user (industry has not problem with higher costs) HMDs the wrong side of £500 are not going to sell in the masses.
I actually want a "compromise" between the 2 extremes, I respect the riftS and think it is a very important step for VR, but i am an enthusiast and so happy to splash a bit more cash for something higher end...... just not £1000. Split the differnce between the 2, (£400 vs £1000) and that is something i could consider, a £700 complete package. This is the area i think valve could do well to target because right now there is no one competing in that space, leaving oculus to push VR into the main stream...
I think valve are going to charge too much however..... Thinking back to the steam machines for instance, they were far too expensive for what they were. |
