Thought I would start posting in here since I do a bit of running data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

My PB for a 10k is 44:30.

Went out for my last training run yesterday and did 10K in 46 in preparation for the Bristol Half Marathon on Sunday, felt good. Done the 13 miles about 4 times over last few months so feeling fairly fit right now.

Was just about to say that I have just read on another forum about someone getting their rejection letter but you beat me to it.

I won't know until I get home, but recently it seems like my postman has gone part time so I may be waiting a few more days yet.

Having done my first half marathon 2 weeks ago (GNR) I came home today to find I have a VLM place! Best start upping the mileage data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Thats great news and brilliant that you got one through the ballot. I was unsuccessful in the ballot but have secured a place through the British Heart Foundation - keep logging your training in here and we can keep each other going - will be a hard path.

What did I learn from last year?

Hmmmm ..... definitely that the next three months before Christmas is a valuable time to lay the foundations for all those long runs to come. I will be working on core and leg strength with a long run once a week to keep me ticking over. I will also start to up the mileage quicker than last year and aim to get as many 20miles runs under my belt as I can. The key for me is to be able to endure the time required to run 20 miles and to practice over and over refuelling / hydrating on the run.

Looking forward to it.

I didn't manage to get a place in the VLM through the ballot unfortunately.Probably a good idea to get a half marathon under my belt first anyway.

No place for me either in the VLM but at least I have my backup plan of Brighton where I do have a place. It's a shame I didn't get into London, but 26.2 miles is 26.2 miles where ever it's run!

I was also thinking of Berlin but when I looked earlier in the year, entry's had closed, so I may consider that for next year as well. I've always fancied going there anyway so I could combine it with a holiday, because after all, I'd see plenty of the sites because I'd probably be walking past then so slow in the days after the marathon data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Yep, there are plenty of marathons around the UK to enjoy - Edinburgh is a month after London.

I can honestly say though, of all the various events I have done, its no surprise that the demand for London is so high - it really is a brilliant occasion. This time, I hope to do a bit better.

I was considering this last night.Seems to be a fast course suitable for first time marathon runners.I've ran a marathon before but that was 7 or 8 years ago!

Abbeygoo Publish time 26-11-2019 05:21:12

I ran the Edinburgh marathon in 2010.

It is fairly flat so I would say give it a go. Totally different to London in that, although you start in the city centre, you quickly leave and head out to Mussleborough and finish about 5 or 6 miles outside Edinburgh too. Spent most of the time running into the wind in the middle of nowhere!!

Good experience though.
