Well, I did my 10k last night and now have the official results.
My chip time was 46:29 which was good enough for 47th out of 253. It was also a PB for 10k. Also, out of the people who did it from my office, there were seven, I came third and considering the first two won the mens and womens, I pretty chuffed with my effort data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
I had a target pace in my head, but the first section was all down hill and although I was keeping to what felt good for me, I heard someone behind me say "God, we are on for 4:35 pace already". At that point I was thinking, opps! So I did the first 1k in 4:27 but I then slowed to what I wanted to do
Afterwards, I was talking to someone and it was the first time I had told anyone outside of the few people who know what I'm going through at the moment, why I'm doing all of this. Considering what I'm going through and who I said it to, it sort of hit home so it was a bit emotional as well, but in a good way.
Anyway, next month I will hopefully be halfway to my target!

That's a great time, well done. Hoping to get a 5k PB at parkrun this weekend.
Think I may have overdone it though with 7.5 miles of hill-work yesterday after the GNR on Sunday

Well done Sleaver. Got my first 10k on Sunday. Had to back off the training this week, felt my Achilles tightening up again.....

Thanks for the well done's and good luck with your races.
It's now dawned on me that I need to train for my half marathon in two weeks on Sunday. Considering I can only do long runs at weekends and that I don't want to do 13 miles the week before, guess what I'm doing on Sunday data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
Damn injury making me take two weeks off!

Just been catching up on the thread and its really given me a boost towards my own plans.
Well done to Sleaver, Mr Flash, Kez and ODP for your various running times - excellent effort and really shows the benefit of having our very own running thread here on AVF - it has given me a bit of mojo back!
Sympathy with Toon at the moment fella, think I have recovered from my slight hamstring issue - so thanks for the advice on that.
Not run now since the Sheffield 10k on 2nd September (woops!) so having earned my rest and recuperation (watching City in Madrid) I'm back with a 10 mile run planned for the morning and then the Macclesfield half marathon next Sunday, 30th.
In a way I'm worried about how my absence will affect me and whether my hammy is really better and another part of me really wants to get out there and start running again.
Keep it going everyone!!

Just looking for a bit of advice since I have now got a 4th pair of running shoes since the trouble I had a few weeks ago with a different brand of shoe!
The question is, do I break in the new pair and use them for the half on the 7th in 15 days time or just stick with the pair that have done 715 miles? Risk new shoes or use a very high mileage pair that were fine ( as far as I know) until I switched?
Between now and the end the half, I'm planning on 55 miles tops. However, knowing my luck, I'll have problems if I switch shoes even though they are just a newer model. Or do I push a pair of shoes close to 800 miles!
Could my current shoes actually be a factor due to the mileage!
So, what are people's opinions, stick with what I've got and leave the new shoes until after the half or break them in now? All I know at the moment is that I'm not starting that process during my planned 13 miles this weekend.

I'd break the new ones in.
Shoes supposedly last 500 miles and so I think you have had your use out of them. The shoes these days are that good that you should be ok to run straight away in a new pair .... but I would always do one or two runs with them first to make sure.
My advice - go for the new ones.

Agree with Abbeygoo.
For those of you who may have thought that medmick was taking the mick when I mentioned using tennis balls for injured/stiff parts of the body, have a read of this interview from Isobel Lang:

First run for 3 weeks this morning and felt OK over the 10 mile distance.
Hamstring still bothering me a bit .... plenty of stretching before and after but its getting a bit stiff now. Pass me the tennis balls please.
