There is a comment on this page that says that there is no average pace function. Also, the site is pretty good for reviews.
DC Rainmaker: Garmin Forerunner 10 (FR10) GPS watch In-Depth Review
You could always use the virtual pacer function which compares average pace to your target pace.

Technology has not advanced to show / calculate average pace on the fly. You can review such information after a session is over
The alternative is to set a target pace zone, with a predefined minimum and maximum pace. Or with equivalent minimum and maximum heart rate zones if that is your modus operendi

What a load of codswallop ..... especially the last bit.
My mate's Garmin Forerunner 110 shows average pace over the run too. This means its so much easier to see how you are performing over the whole run rather than at a particular moment in time.
Time to use the 30 day returns policy!!

I thought that if you remove the splits in the Garmin menu, then that gives you average pace. I could be wrong though!
On a separate note, I just received via email a £2 voucher off for runners world mag. PM me if anyone wants it.

It's probably called the auto lap function rather than splits. Basically, instead of the watch automatically starting a new lap every Km, mile or what ever you set it at, your run will be one big lap. Hope that makes sense.
I was actually reading yesterday that people turn it off for races because Garmin's have something like a/- 2% accuracy in the distance. So if you go for a time in a race and go by the distance of the watch, you could very well miss it by seconds. However, if you turn off auto lap and just press the lap button as per the course markers, it will be more accurate. When I did my HM, I still had the auto lap function on, but I calculated my pace going by the markers on the road. Luckily it was east as I was aiming for 8 minute per mile pace. If it was something like 7:43 it would have been interesting!!!
