Rift S is £399 We know the Price we know the specs. There’s nothing more to know before making a decision. You already said others will buy lots so you must know enough to make that conclusion.
is this confirmed? i know it is $399 and i know historically oculus have sold $1 - $£1 however when the rift launched the £ was stronger than it is now. i hope it is £399 but defintely can imagine it being £449 or worse yet £499.
On paper the specs do look naff but i do want to see one in the flesh.
I agree the riftS is not for the likes of existing VR users really however for new people who are not yet invested in VR... Despite my genuine dissapointment at the RiftS i can totally see why oculus want this device on the market.... and whilst the rift s may not have the best resolution, it may not have the best tracking, it may not have the best FOV....... as an overall package, and becauseimo the oculus infrastructure is the best (ASW was out for years whilst valve played catchup and we are now on the cusp of ASW 2.0 which will open the gap again), for $400 i still think it is probably the best over all package for the mainstream PC gamer who just wants a system which "just works".
I just wish there was a high end equivalent for those happy to splash a bit more cash and with the rig to back it up

£399 is the confirmed price, I’ll wait and weigh up the options. Maybe others may go on offer again.

1) Technically they haven't abandoned PC VR. At all. They're replacing the Rift (A PC VR headset) with the Rift S (another PC VR headset).
2) The Lenovo deal is completely different to the Samsung deal because Samsung were in charge of selling the GearVR. Oculus are selling the Rift S. You'll probably see a licencing deal of some sort for the head strap. We don't even know if Lenovo are building the thing, they might just be building the halo head strap but common sense will tell you that all manufacturing, including the head strap, is done by Oculus. They're probably given a 3-5% or a lump sum and they're brand on the headset as part of the deal.
3) Yes, Oculus ARE making games for the Quest. Of course they are lol. But this doesn't mean that they're going to dumb down PC VR games so that they work on the Quest too. Oculus and Facebook are continuing to bring AAA quality games to the Rift and Rift S.
4) Of course they're going to sell loads. Comparing the Rift S to any of the WVR headsets is a bit daft, but not much of a surprise from you tbh. The Rift S has FAR superior tracking and if there's enough demand for it they'll add Constellation tracking to it to improve it even more. We don't know anything about the Cosmos but this is HTC we're talking about here, HTC pricing themselves out of the market AGAIN would be a reasonably safe bet. And as for adding more cameras to the WVR headsets we have NO IDEA what the licencing agreement with Microsoft is like. Perhaps manufacturers are restricted to two cameras? That would certainly explain why nobody has added more cameras to the things yet. As for the Reverb, it isn't a high end PC VR headset. None of the WVR headsets are. Why not? Because the tracking isn't good enough.
5) The Steam Survey will most likely either include it with the Rift headsets or separate the two. They certainly won't list it as a Lenovo headset because all they've done is agreed a licencing deal for the head strap. It's still an Oculus headset. We don't even know if Lenovo are manufacturing the head strap, it's pretty unlikely imo. They've probably just supplied the tooling and the licence so that the head straps can be made in the Oculus factory.

They were able to find deadzones for the controllers and, like WMR, it looks like it struggles if the HMD gets too close to a wall or floor. Claims it's better than constellation though.
Base hardware requirement remains GTX 970 / 1060.
He claims he would consider it as an upgrade to his Vive Pro which is quite a compliment.
It's got Lenovo's branding on it. I don't reckon Oculus have their own manufacturing facilities. This is Oculus designed and certainly sports Oculus software but is Lenovo built. I suspect we won't see a new Lenovo WMR headset now they're enjoying this partnership.
You've also got to consider the displays, lenses and sound tubes. It all depends on which is cheaper to do in terms of logistics. The displays are manufactured by BOE and Oculus have the tooling for the sound tubes and lenses due to manufacturing the Oculus Go and Quest. It would make MUCH more sense logistically to get the required tooling from Lenovo as part of the licence rather than transport both the displays and the head straps from BOE and Lenovo because it would cost more and take more time to do so.
