Valve just own the tracking technology. They didn't design the Vive, they don't own the Vive IP and they don't own VivePort. HTC have just licensed Valve's tracking technology and the device uses OpenVR.

This is why you don't have

Valve

in bloomin great big letters on the Vive headset but see

HTC

instead. This REALLY isn't rocket surgery. Seriously.

With every headset that gets sold HTC and Oculus get the lion's share of the cash and they pay licence fees to Valve and Lenovo (for the Lighthouse tracking technology and Lenovo head strap) and give Lenovo a further small cut for making the thing for them.

And you still haven't addressed those three other points that I've made.

And having Lenovo on the side of the headset is part of the licencing and/or manufacturing deal, it still says Oculus on the front of the device, in bigger letters lol

I'm not sure i'm liking the new headstrap. I like the way the Rift is not bulky & i can store it easily.

I'm not too bothered about the head strap, I welcome it if (as it seems to be from feedback so far) it's more comfortable to wear. Not too happy with losing the headphones though.

Not crazy talk, those are facts. It seems like you don't do facts either. And you still haven't addressed those three other points that I've made. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

thesnowdog Publish time 2-12-2019 05:39:06

And Oculus have now stopped selling the OG Rift now too. It seems the release is imminent...either that or someone at Oculus needs to get the sack lol data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I'm going to wait until the end of September or the beginning of October before I think about getting one to see how long away Abrash says we are from the Half Dome becoming a commercial product.

I might even get a free one if I'm accepted into the Oculus Start programme before then.
