The Lab doesn't get enough love. It was a fantastic demo of everything that could be done in room scale VR and set some sort of standard for all VR games that came after. A vast amount of experimentation and thought went into all of those massively different 'tech demos'. A huge number of games that followed were inspired in some way by The Lab.

It was the Wii Sports of VR.

The Lab is a great little showcase for demoing VR to others. First Contact demo on the Oculus store is a winner as well.

I'm quite confident but also very skint otherwise I'd make that a bet data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

But like I've said, I hope I'm wrong, but Valve have let everyone down so much in the past you'd be foolish to get your hopes up.

If you only expect The Lab 2 you'll either be happy because you got what you expected or overjoyed because you got Half Life 2 VR, Left 4 Dead VR or Portal VR.

I agree it was a nice demo but you are way off on the Wii sports. Wii sports featured heaps of actual gameplay loops. You could have an entire play session for all the family with bowling, golf, tennis boxing and so much more.
I know some people who barely used their Wii for anything else. The lab however is a tech demo.

Don't get me wrong it is good..... But valve have had years to follow up their neat ideas with something qualifying as a game and it is only now they are looking like actually doing something.
It blows my mind that valve released a VR Headset with new controls with novel features ...... And they expected everyone else to support it without releasing a game of their own for it.    Honestly mind boggling

I think HTC and Valve were expecting the Rift games that were Oculus funded for the Rift launch to work natively with the Vive, that's why the Vive launch titles were so piss poor in comparison.

Either that or they just couldn't be bothered.

I was SOOOOOOO pissed off with Valve when these headsets launched in 2016, all we got was The Lab. Can you imagine the hype that these headset launches would have had if they had launched with Half Life 2 VR on day one?

It would have been huge.

What do we think the chances of this new game being bundled with the Index are? I was about to buy a Index (headset only) but wondering if it might be worth waiting a week.

huxley Publish time 2-12-2019 05:13:38

If they were to do that I would of thought they would give it to all Index owners.

Can't see that happening, GabeN loves his money too much.

@MikeKay1976 nope... You're wrong... The Lab was (and still is) awesome and is very comparable to Wii Sports data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Valve do need to bring us a big budget VR release though and should have done a while ago!
