Every 2-3 years, but takes HEAVY convincing in that kind of time-frame data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I have an 902, arnt you worried about the impact loss of HDR, going from a good FALD to OLED?

Neil Petrol Publish time 1-12-2019 22:13:40

I upgrade TV's around every 5 years but try to get the best available within my budget so they don't get obsolete before then.
Went from a LG 47LX9900 in 2011 (just passed on to my mum for safe keeping) to a LG OLED55E6V recently (one of the last few)...

No not really. I have some very sensetive eyes when it comes to the HDR light from my 902. Actually there are HDR movies I just can´t watch. So for me the Panny OLED should be just about right. Besides, I have tested the Panny OLED with some of my favorite BD´s and HDR BD´s, and they worked just fine for me.

Since 2010 i have had 7 different tv's
1 lcd
1 edge led
3 plasmas
1 curved 4k fald
and now 1 lg 65b6 oled
I think that i have finally found a tv that is a keeper, i probably wont be changing it for a good 3 years or so, unless i come into a load of money.

I used to upgrade every 3-4 years and move the old TV to one of the bedrooms, all the bedrooms now have 1080p sets from Sony in them.

The need to upgrade came to me this year as I thought our 46" Sony in the lounge was too small, we ended up with a 1080p projector and motorised screen which obviously isn't the latest technology, but provides an image far bigger then what I could currently afford TV-wise. I am hoping the novelty doesn't wear off soon!

MMmm, wonder how I fit into that bell curve?

Bought an OLED last Autumn but stuck with 1080p and paid for a Lg910V. It replaced a 8 year old Panasonic full HD plasma the, Th42pz70 one of the first full 1080 domestic plasmas on the market. So I am an early adopter, but a late majority when it comes to screen resolution, this time around, insufficient UHD content for my viewing tastes so invested in panel tech over resolution.

I'm not expecting my 910v to be in my front room for 8 years, 5 probably when UHD content I want to watch hits the 50% of viewing mark and, doesn't involve a substantially increased monthly outlay in subs.

Tend to look at replacing TVs every 5 years, the Panny plasma we had for 8 years was longest a TV has ever sat in our front room. We did look at replacing it after 5 years but the cost versus (relatively minor) picture improvement wasn't worth it, so it stayed.

Myself and my husband are of the invest in good AV kit and keep it until it's near the end of life or it is outdated by new tech that, improves the quality of the viewing or, audio experience versus the cost/usage.

My last TV was a 31 inch Panasonic bought around 8 years ago, hasn't missed a beat in that time. But recently my wife whose eyesight is slowly failing has complained about the picture quality, decided it was time for a change, so after researching in Currys, the LG 49 UJ634V seemed to have the best picture in my price range at £649. Unfortunately it was one of Currys exclusive models so I couldn't do a comparison check. I eventually emailed LG to ask if they had an equivalent model with the exact features. 24 hours later I hadn't had a reply, so went back to the Currys store for another look, after browsing around for 30 minutes an "assistant" asked if he could help. So I told him we were interested in the LG & spent the next 20 minutes trying to get a discount or something thrown in such as a magic remote. It was like talking to the wall. Eventually I realised I wasn't getting anywhere, so I asked if the set would show MP4 videos from a memory stick, yes he said, show me I said, can't he said, haven't got one, I have I replied & pulled out my USB stick, put it in he said. He then flashed through the buttons on the remote & the contents of the stick (about 50 of my homemade AV shows appeared on the screen. He clicked on the first on "A Wedding in Spain" which I made from images from one of our grandaughter's wedding. The pictures were stunning, so after 5 minutes, we bought one. It was to be delivered the following Monday. When we got home, there was an email from LG giving me an equivalent model number which Argos sold at £569, bong!!!.
I rang the help line on my Currys receipt, told them what I'd discovered, they said they couldn't match it as it wasn't their model number. So I cancelled the order, & ordered one from Argos for delivery the next day. Then went back to the store, got my credit card payment refunded. The set was delivered Saturday & I'm gradually setting it up. See another of my threads for my first problem with the sound.

My Panasonic TH37PE30 plasma is still going strong after 13 years, and still delivers great SD pictures. The huge bezels and superb integrated stand give it a presence way above its size, and a quality and solidity just not seen now. It cost a fortune back then, along with the Panasonic HDD/DVD which still works (after I replaced the £4 voltage regulator a while back).

I've been looking for a good 4K set for a couple of years, having bypassed HD sets completely. The physical design of the sets is just so boring on the whole, with the shiny, silver frames bent round the corners making them look cheap, and a wide range of unappealing stand designs. I can't afford OLED, and many LCDs I looked at had smeary flesh tones on HD, which is mostly what I will be watching for now.

I recently got the Sony 49XE9005. The picture on Freeview HD is superb, the flesh tones being as good as I've seen, and the odd 4K HDR demo I've tried stunning, my still photos also. The minimal black bezel and clean stand let the picture do the talking. I will probably bypass any disk upgrades to DVD, rent the odd streamed film, and look forward to the BBC streaming 4K HDR with the HLG update from new with Android 7 done. Android TV seems fairly stable compared to earlier iterations, just the odd reboot advisable, something I never had to worry about with the Panny! I also got the Humax T2000, and enjoying being able to set recordings from the YouView app. I doubt it will all last 13 years, but it was a good price with two £100 price matches from John Lewis before 28 days, and it's fun finally catching up with the smart TV world. My 37" plasma lives on in the bedroom, and my ancient 28" Sony Trinitron finally consigned to the tip!

I bought my first SD plasma in '02, then upgraded to 1080 in '12. Not planning on going 4k anytime soon, maybe '19 or '20.
