Aside from the nice goose-neck kettle and the grinder, and using the supplied the stirrer, that's actually exactly what I do, too, almost to the second – barring the plunge, which generally takes as long as it takes for me.

Though I'll admit that rather than a one or two-handed press, I actually do a 'two hands on top with forehead also used to apply pressure via hands' method, which I suspect is of my own creation. The reason is pathetic – I'm not tall enough (5ft 7in) to exert enough pressure comfortably with it standing a foot plus the height of a mug above the kitchen work surface, and in the early days of using it managed to slightly pull a muscle in my stomach and aggravate an old shoulder/neck injury. Told you it was pathetic...

And having to grind my own beans, Manually, I sold all my stuff, coffee equipment except a hand grinder and a drip machine when I bought my Automatic.

Just had my nicest cup yet made with my DeLonghi using LavAzza pre ground coffee. Lovely!

Slightly late in responding, but the "Hiow-to" guide from the Aeropress website gives guidance on fine and coarser grinds.
From my own experience, I preferred the coffee I got with a grind closer to "espresso-fine".

KyleS1 Publish time 26-11-2019 04:40:06

Fair enough. I generally use espresso in mine as mentioned above anyway, but don't grind my own.

Awesome. This is what it is all about!

I did as you suggested and used the bigger cup in the portafilter. Much better.

Just timed my double espresso and its 45 seconds from the machine. Does that sound right?

AdrianMills Publish time 26-11-2019 04:40:09

Not really, should be around 25 to 30 seconds. But is it a proper double espresso by volume of water?

I programmed my machine up so it drew more water - Lungo/Americano - but, to be honest, it tasted like bollocks. Much better to pull a proper sized espresso and then add hot water to it after if you want and Americano/lungo. Putting too much water through the coffee over extracts it I think.
