Change of plan........ I'm getting a USA Telecaster. I know myself too well, and if I get a Mexican guitar, I will always be thinking 'heck, should have got a US one'. The Peerless has gone, now just need to sell my Eastman. I should be able to get a very decent USA telecaster for £800-£900 or so. I'd like one of the more recent ones with the sculptured body shape and the S1 system. At least I want one with 6 bridge saddles. I can't handle poor intonation. I have played a few older ones, and prefer the newer body shape to be honest. Baja would be fine I know. No one would care. My playing would be the same. It would look and sound the same.
But my head would know!

Finally sold my Eastman... So now trawling ebay for a decent telecaster. Watch this space!

A little teaser...
This is the actual guitar (from the sellers pics). Having played it and agreed a price, I wasn't in a position to take it home as we were on the way to stay with friends for the weekend so I agreed to pick it up Thursday. It's a jade metallic 2013 American Standard. It's from a dealer over in West Yorkshire who is a very decent guy and knows how to buy, sell, and set up guitars. He's got tonnes of them, and sells on internet and at guitar fairs.
It was as 'cheap' as any on ebay, and I fell in love with the colour - not traditional, maybe that's why it was cheap(ish). Just goes to show - a week ago I would have bet £100 I would end up with a sunburst or natural wood.
If I can take any better pics, I'll do them when I get it - although I doubt I could take anything better than these.

that's nice man data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

not seen that colour before....bit partial to the black ones .....I like the darker fret board that I've seen on a couple...but I've only seen them on 'squires'

I've had a look at a couple of tele moderns...and had a go on a 'wilko' special...which was nice

was tempted by a black fender tele back in the summer that came up on gumtree not to far away from me

...cant remember what model it was ...it was'nt a squire and was 300 quid ...wished I'd gone and had look at it but I'd just bought the epi dot from Andrewif I remember rightly

You see quite a lot of rosewood fretboards on both teles and strats. There are also some ebony ones knocking around. I have generally played rosewood, although the Eastman I just sold had an ebony. Some players swear by one or the other. Frankly, I can barely tell the difference.
Most people over on the tele forums, and in reviews generally, believe that the current Mexican teles are by far and away the best value. Particularly the Mexican Baja model (which was what I was going to get until I went all mad). They're around £400 or so second hand, £670 new. I never got round to playing one, and now I've got this, I will make damn sure I never do...

That's not a bad price, they generally go for 20-50 quid more.
