This lasted me only six months after I passed my test:

But that was mainly because I started working a lot further from home and it went pop one morning in the fast lane of the M69. I had foolishly exceeded the second service interval by about 80km, the type of journey was not wise for a two stroke, either. Once rebuilt, I decided to move on.
33bhp is enough for some fun, especially in the bends and if you are not used to bikes. I'd think that a restricted 500 would be tolerable for two years as you are building up NCB and experience - essential when trying to insure something a bit quicker. Don't forget that one of the questions on an insurance quote centres around what you have been riding recently.

I had a 33bhp restricted fazer 600 when I first passed my full test at 18 years old. It only lasted 3 days before I wipped the restrictor washers out again to release the full 95bhp.
Are fuel injected bikes restricted by a map change or is it still mechanical. If so and if I were I the new rider position now I would buy a older carbed bike which would be easily derestricted again.
I wouldn't want to ride a bike which runs out of power when it should be taking off like a scalded cat.
If you aren't going to derestrict the bike in the 2 year period I would go for something like a ninja 250, a 600 sports bike would be like going out with a sexy chick that won't let you in her nickers for 2 years.

Damn! Bad news.
Bike magazine were doing a road test on the Origami and after a hundred odd miles, the engine casing ripped apart and it dropped the crank and all the oil over the road!!
Not a great start, but Good God they're beautiful.data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Mint ones are a bit harder to find but yeah.
I was planning on getting one when I sold my R1 early this year but came across the street triple I'm riding now. New plan is to finish tarting up the nc30 in the garage and then sell that for the gixer.
