The Official AVForums Bike Showroom part 2
Well I took my first dip into Sport bike land on Monday.Picked up from Bradford and rode back over Saddleworth penine road.
Never ridden a sports bike and haven't ridden anything for a couple of years.
Talk about baptism of fire data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 :O

Wanted a TL1000R since I was 16 and now......:-D I had a red one for 5 years. Great bikes!
Are you getting some open cans? Sounds amazing with them data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 I'm not 100% which ones to go for, my mates dad had one with d&ds on and it sounded awesome. Probably look for something second hand?
I would only go as far as slip on cans, as the bike is pretty much stock with FSH. I reckon trying to keep it as original as poss will hold its value.
Still trying to learn to get it round bends at something above 30mph at the mo! data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Bought this yesterday, only done around 120 miles on it so far so still getting used to it but i love it already.
Its a bit high milage @ just under 30k (after my ride.) but only one owner from new and full service history on it and its in really good nick imo.
I do have one slight niggle with it, and that would be aching/painful wrists after a while, but i suspect that is my fault due to not sitting correctly... It is my first supersport/headdownarseup bike so its almost certainly my body positioning i think, never had an issue on my ol hornet with renthals.
Gonna adjust the front brake/clutch levers in a min as i think they're too high for me which isnt helping matters.
Any tips would be helpful, but aching wrists wont stop me riding it, a bit of pain never hurt anyone. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
Edit - Nice TL1000 Turbo, was thinking about getting one myself as insurance is around the same as this, but due to being a skinny short a**e i opted against it as they're not the smallest of bikes and thought i'd look silly on it, already had a few "whats that kid doing on THAT bike" comments ^_^ Thanks, I'm bout 6'3" and actuallly find it a little cramped in the leg.
The body length is fine, but you are right its a heavy ol' lump.
Re. Your wrists, during long rides, on a straight simple section, have you tried squeezing the tank with your legs and loosening your hands grip slightly? Takes a bit of the pressure off? Hear hear.
I remember doing a track school with Niall MacKenzie years ago, his advise was that you should grip the bars like you're holding a baby chick.
Strong enough that it won't escape, but not so strong as you'd hurt it.
Locked forearms/elbows are another common mistake for people to make on sports bikes. Here is my beast Yamaha R6 last year when I got it

May Bank Holiday Monday at Silverstone. I hope the weather's good! I and a mate have been asked to 'test' some GSXR750s that a bloke plans to rent out for trackdays.
Looking forward to that.data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
I think he's hoping to get a base track setting that will suit the majority of people.
Hopefully allow them to just go out and have fun, not ask for adjustments. Nice R6 Golf_Turbo....looks sweet.
You in the Spelthorne borough?? I am too....
