That's just plain daft.

Is everyone in the USA, France and Germany a "griping, miserable bastard"?

Look, debate about whether or not we have a monarchy is a legitimate debate.  People should be allowed to express their honest opinions on bith sides without this sort of insult.

I don't like the concept of a monarchy, but I wouldn't stoop to calling any pro-monarchist a 'hater' of children or the NHS, even though I think the money would be better spent there.

You'll notice he said some - not everyone - so don't post exaggerated hyperbole.

Personally I think his comment is spot on - some British people are griping, miserable b******* especially when it comes to things like this.  Regardless of how much money it could bring to the UK, regardless of what it could contribute to British overseas trade, some people will just whinge and whine.  The politics of envy in a nutshell.

He said SOME... Good lord...

Also, if we had a thriving economy we wouldn't have problems funding nhs or entertaining the unemployed... I don't know how else you want to do this? Magic money tree? Pixies? Fairies? I despair...

Yeah, I see your point IG.

I don't suppose any of us really know who is telling the truth about the amount of business that was generated by the royal yacht. If the department that produced those figures are correct, then perhaps it would pay for itself and all would be well. Or perhaps, as I said before, they need to justify the expense somehow.

I dont think pride in your country has anything to do with some peoples arguments against the RY. I suppose it will be up to Michael Gove etc to convince people if its sustainable and fair?

I would suggest that the viewing figures for this summers royal wedding both nationally and globally directly contradict your statement. They unite many people in the population, they unfortunately alienate others like yourself - an inevitable consequence of a pluralistic and free society - every one is entitled to an opinion and every opinion is probably manifest throughout the land.
They also bind the commonwealth together and keep absolute power out of the hands of a potentially dictatorial president. I still fail to see how anybody cannot see the benefits of this project knowing that tax payers money will not be spent on it, there is absolutely no scope for complaint..!

Quoting figures at LGS isn't worth the wear and tear on your fingers. If he didn't watch it, nobody did, and nothing anyone can say will change his stated "fact"...

Anyone can "cherry-pick" numbers like that to suit their argument. Blah blah blah, Kindles for the jobless, JSA at £10k a week, knighthoods for all who support my politics, and public executions of all bankers (which I assume means everyone involved in the banking industry - even the cleaners who make those city offices a "home from home" for them)...

Click to expand...        [/quote]its called expressing an opinion which has absolutely nothing to do with envy.Oh dear me the right never seem to get it
It really is about not being anyones subject but, instead, a free citizen who doesnt want his  national anthem glorying a monarch but instead his nation and its people. Its about never having to feel obliged to show deference  to another person because of their birthright, but to treat them as equals pretty much like Paul Keating the ex Australian premier did all those year ago when he placed his arm round the Queen.Nothing griping or miserable about that at all.I would more than happily shake her maj's hand maybe tell the odd joke or two, but i am buggered if I would bow and scrape. What an absurd thought

they only unite those who believe in the outdated concept .There are plenty of others who feel no sense of unity with that at all
