BUT it wont cost the tax payer any money? - and will generate jobs (from the creation of the boat to the staffing in the navy)

Speaking as a non-national, I can see instigator's point. However I can't really talk because the Irish are the biggest bunch of angry begrudgers you're ever likely to come across. It's endemic to the British Isles, I think. Generally speaking, we'd rather drag one another down to the same level than encourage anyone to achieve anything. Of course we're not all like that, but I bet we all know plenty of people who are. My natural state is cynical begrudger and I have to try very hard to override it. I don't always like being like that, but I can't help it.

You're only saying that because I haven't got a yacht!

Why a royal yacht?  Why not a royal hotel?  A royal train?  A royal anything?  I'm dubious about the claims made for how much the royals make us, but let's take the claims at face value for a moment.  Why do they need a yacht?

Entertain the people concerned in a posh hotel, or a posh resteraunt.

I'll tell you what, I have an idea, let's fly them to Buckingham Palace.  I bet thery'd love that!  I'm no fan of the royals, but I can see the attraction of getting an invite for dinner with the Queen at Buck House.  It'd be far more welcome than dinner aboard a boat.

I bet it'd be cheaper to fly someone first class return from China to London than sail the royal yacht right round the world and back.  And we're already paying for Buckingham Palace, so why pay extra for staff on a yacht?

It makes no economic sense whatsoever.

If someone gave me a yacht, that'd be nice.  Does that make me 'envious'?  If someone gave you a yacht would that be nice?  If so, you're just as envious as me or anyone else.  If you say a yacht wouldn't be nice...well, who is being silly now?

If thats true then thats up to the "funders" to get on with it. No problem.

All this talk about posters who oppose are "haters" is idiotic IMO. I have no axe to grind with the royals, at all. I just feel its wrong at this time.

Because it worked before & it can travel the world. It is also bigger than a plane.  There is a fair few estates already. You want another???
Already got one.
There is cars, carriages, crown jewels etc.
Can be done but anyone can do that. The idea is to be a step up from others. Also has been done.
That's just you. Have you thought others may think different? I've done the garden party stuff, still wouldn't mind going on a Royal boat though.
Except it does, see earlier.
You are. The yacht isn't being given to the Queen. It would remain the countries and most of the time would be paying its way. Aside from the Queen if it was being used my sea cadets, or the PM, or for trade, or as a hospital ship would you still be objecting or is it the Royal association alone that kicked you off?

Wow, more of the me me me gimme a yacht....   It's the country's boat...   I'm not a royalist...  I actually despise the notion of royalty but even I can understand this point...

Greed, hate, bitterness and selfishness has reached a new height....   Wow...

Come on people...  It's not always about you, what you want the government to give you...   It's about having something that all of you Brits can be proud of and unite for....

God forbid you put your engineering, design, craftsmanship, strength, pride and unity on a global stage and jump start an industry which in turn has a positive impact in moral of the country and other industries and investment etc...

You might even get some unemployed people some jobs...

Imagine that...

But no, you'd rather go for a barge on the Thames with some balloons on it? Really? Your that short sited and miserable?

thats the problem, the royals DONT unite otherwise there would not be so many republicans who decry them or those like myself who think they should be toned down massively
