Alan figured that out in his first post I just don't like the two faced guy. And no there is no set protocol for what to do, there have been many variations over the years.

He wasn't cool at all, I think he is rather nasty when he promises things that he can't possibly deliver. 32 years a backbencher, never had a job of authority and leadership. It is easy to promise stuff, it is hard to deliver and promise unpopular policy. You and I have a very different view on cool, I don't think that anyone who is attempting to buy their followers and make them dependent like some drug dealer on the state is cool. I think people are much better and much more important than that. That is why I find him nasty and vile.

Obviously not sir as in Sir Siete .That would make me cringe, but the formal way some people feel the needs to address male members of the public .Madam for women is equally cringeworthy

You must be living in a really posh part of Sussex, nobody addresses you as Sir or Madam around here unless you go into an upmarket store, you must hate it if it''s like that where you are.

it  happens rarely here as well but when it does I notice it.I dont exactly  hate it but it does make me feel a tad uncomfortable and I would never address anyone Sir or Madam

I think you are conflating it's use as a way of addressing someone whose name you don't know with the honorific use to adress a Knight. "Excuse me, miss, or madam, or sir, you can't go in there..."   is very benign, just being polite and nothing to feel uncomfortable about.

I would just say - excuse me you can't go in there and leave the sir/ madam/miss out of it.It's way too formal for my liking

We're all different, thank goodness, and your too formal is another's being polite, neither is particularly preferable to the other.

i guess it is a matter if perception because to me he comes across as being very sincere.
If you are referring to his manifesto he will say it has been very well costed and, therefore,  deliverable.
I don't see that being dependent on the state funding an education is anything like being on drugs.93% of our children depend on state education and we all benefit as a result whereas drug taking is purely self-indulgent.
