Interesting, so I've been confirming respect for all all along. Even to those I really don't like. Yet you've been suggesting some don't deserve it and now somehow it is all turned around and you act like I'm the one not giving respect.

What a warped viewpoint in my opinion. I may as well have a conversation with the stars.

no one bows to me so why is it vile and obnoxious to not bow to the Queen, particularly if one is a Republican .You can show respect without being obsequious - a handshake, a smile or a hand around the waist or shoulder seem ok to me

A bless. No I wouldn't bow to your either, still would address you with Mr though. Or if you were military I would provide you with an appropriate salute. And if you were royalty I would give you a head bow. And if you were a priest I'd cross my arms when approaching you for a blessing. Etc. I really have no issues in making such distinctions for anyone and of any pursuasion. A little gesture goes a long way to establish proper communication.

However I do draw the line at kissing your feet. But I might make up a little white lie and say I've got herpes so not to offend you.

How often do you get slapped/punched when you greet people you don't know?

all a bit too status obsessed for me. I guess that is why i am self-employed and dont feel any need to ingratiate myself to anyone .Mr and Mrs is ok and i am usually very polite  but it isnt long before I am on first name terms with most of my clients.Doctor or officer where job titles are concerned is ok too there but I would never call someone sir, lord  , your worship, highness, bow to her Maj .Naah! They are just people after all

I never said I don't get quickly on first term names with most people. I must admit I find the distinction you are drawing a bit concerning, surely they are all just people? So why do it for some but not for others? Personally I have more respect for someone who is known to snub EVERYONE compared to someone who is actually rather selective about it. Sure their choice, but I find that rather two faced.

Jimmy Savile was always courteous to those in power. Including the royal family. Been courteous doesn't make you a respectful person. It just shows you know how to play the power game while hiding your true nature.
