If anything, to me the act of "rebelling" against it but only for certain people would in effect give more cause for concern that they think there is a difference between them. Why they can't simply treat everyone with the same courtesy is beyond me.

But hey the good thing is we can find middle ground and laugh at each other

I dont even like being addressed as "sir" and Mr just denotes my family name  so I much prefer to be addressed by my Christian name

How are we supposed to know you are a Christian and address you appropriately. What is so wrong with Hello Mr Siete, Hello Mr de Jong, please do call me La Gran. Sure La Gran my name is JP, how are you doing?

What is so wrong with that?

I still dont understand why you describe Corbyn as vile and obnoxious when protocol does not require him to bow, the Black Rod does that on behalf of both leaders so if anything it was May who got it wrong.
Rather than thinking he is vile and obnoxious I am impressed by the level of support he has gathered especially amongst young people.I cant ever remember a UK politician been thought of as "cool" and giving a rousing speech at Glastonbury in front of tens of thousands of fans

Christian name is not about religion but about the use of my first name rather than my surname.Of course people I dont know address me as Mr and I dont object to that but I prefer informalities so the quicker they know me as La Gran than Mr Siete the better

Ahem yes it is about religion, otherwise why not just use first name if that is what you mean.

But as I've highlighted, how quickly you get to that stage surely depends on you, not on anyone else.

I mean it could go the other way. True story from a while back. I was in Bad Homburg meeting a member of my team. I was new in that team so I introduced me by my full name and added that most call me JP so feel free to do so as well. However that person responded to state that he prefers it when I address him as Herr Doctor Schmidt.

I have to admit, my brain was thinking fast and what shall I do. Shall I become on equal footing and utilise my full edition all title, shall I piss in the pot and use an army or hereditary title? On that occasion I decided to just be courteous and respond with Grusgott Herr Doctor Schmidt, very nice to meet you. Within the hour I knew his first name was Hans and was invited to enjoy dinner with him and his family.

I just fail to see how anyone can offend by being courteous, polite and appropriate in the situation.
