I think they will have more problems than May as, without a General Election, they will lack democratic legitimacy especially after the EU election results.

Agreed. The new Tory leader will require a mandate to press forward with whatever policies are in the everchanging portfolio.

Johnson didn't write that; he was part-time editor of the Spectator at the time but IIRC that comment piece was written by Simon Heffer.
Found one of the articles about it:

Profoundly flawed, but that won¿t stop Teflon Boris¿s bid for Dave¿s job | Daily Mail Online

Theresa May memorial poem:

Fail, fail, fail, fail, fail fail,
FAIL.
Fail, fail, fail, Fail, Fail, Fail.
FAILED.

(With apologies to Baldrick)

Or Simon Heffer volunteered to take the flack to take the heat off Boris.  Why would he write it an obviously controversial and inflammatory piece and attribute it to Boris Johnson?

Well, controversial and inflammatory is Simon Heffer all over.

IIRC, it was a leader piece in the Spectator and so didn't have a byline.

Well Boris Johnson's bid for PM 'should' be well an truly over after the latest damning evidence implying that he is utterly useless, incompetent and probably crooked  ... as Trump thinks he would be an excellent leader.

Boris leadership chance was over as soon as the law suit was filed, beside he has way to many enemies within the mp’s to ever make it to the final two for members to vote on.

Ps how about updating the poll to include the latest list of candidates   Ever since Maggie (possibility before) the Tory leadership has gone to rank outsiders. James Cleverly is my current favourite to win and he’s not an option. Shame Rory Stewart is a no no deal as dam he is promising
