After dragging the Tories down to their least popular polling position ever, who should take over?

Personally I would prefer Amber Rudd but I doubt she has any hope of winning the contest whatsoever.

Okay, was just attempting a little levity and am willing to change the title, however, as far as I can see, the title is the only bit of the thread I cannot change (Oops). If you know how I can change it, please let me know. Thanks. Cris

ps, I've asked one of the mods to either change it or tell me how to.

As a General election could be looming, the Conservatives need to pick a known candidate who can win. Boris is the only one who is very well known. He has won in London twice so has a good track record.
The next General election looks like being a tough one for Labour and Conservatives. Both parties have to look for a leader who can take them to victory. If they ignore the Brexit party and Nigel Farage it will be at their peril.

He is also toxic for the left, centre-left and Scotland.  With Boris the Tories will neutralise the Brexit Party but empower the Lib Dems and SNP which would deny them a majority.

But would any other candidate do better than Boris?  Many people are not political anoraks like us in this forum and probably don't know many of the other candidates. People like to pick someone they know.
As for the 'left' not liking Boris, well London is pretty left and he was a double winner.

The Brexit party is a challenge for the Labour party as well, not Corbyn followers and the Islington set, but ordinary working class labour voters- especially in the north where the Brexit vote was strongest.
Farage is indicating he will field many candidates at the next GE.
His party is well organised (unlike Change UK) and could surprise the established parties.
