Speed is not the overall mitigating factor (for all accidents), but those three areas I picked out all involve speed. Even if you take out "Careless, reckless or in a hurry" that leaves almost 30% as having speed as the main factor.
I worked as a driving instructor and I don't claim to know the solution. However, I believe that anything that removes risk factors or gives drivers more information is a good thing. Driving is distracting enough (even when you remove fellow passengers, dogs, radio/music, phones). It's one reason why motorways are safer - far less information to process as a driver. |
