It sounds cold but they should. No way should they have tried to palm this off on us.

My brother has a mate who knows the owner and he will be informed about it.

Well, that was one of the most strange experiences I've ever had. The independent assessment took place today. I went along, as well as the independent assessor and a representative of the garage.

It went from "I'm not happy with this and this" as the assessor crouched under the rear wheel arch motioning to 'the issues' with his pen and torch to "It isn't a bad job at all really is it?"

As we left he hung back to speak to the manager.

Not sure why but I feel a shafting coming on.

Oh, and the garage representative denied all knowledge of the previous comment to Vizion Network about a welding mistake.

WTF!!!! Peoples standards are dropping. Even if it is 'isn't a bad job at all' that wouldn't be good enough. It should be a great job, a fantastic job with everything at our disposal in 2018...

I hope you get it sorted, but comments like that make my blood boil...

I agree, I have to admit I'm fuming thinking about it. I'm hoping he was just being diplomatic and the report may be different.

I also felt like it wasn't really 'independent' as he kept saying 'us' a lot. "What do you want us to do?" "Do you want us to fix it here?"

At one point he noticed the plastic trim along the rear door sill hadn't been clipped back on correctly so he pulled out the rubber door seal from underneath it and clipped it in place. When he went to stand up the bottom of the rear seat lifted up. He checked the other side and that lifted up as well. "Oh, they must all be like this" he said. On the way home I thought "No, they have taken it out to work on the door". Sure enough I've since found out it should be locked back into position. They haven't even done that!

Let’s hope he was being diplomatic. Bit odd to do their “repair” work for them.

I don't think he was being diplomatic. I just received an email from him asking "Can we proceed with the repair?"

I'll be ringing the insurance company today to get the car taken elsewhere.

I've just been dangled a carrot. Garage given a second attempt to resolve the issue, overseen by the body shop manager, and another independent follow0up assessment after.

I've also been assured that what they have done so far is not "The best they can do" and they have agreed that they can do a lot better.

What should I do?

It looks like you've done everything right so far, continue by getting a full statement of works they intend to and if that would be satisfactory it's your decision to let them go ahead, if i isn't satisfactory seek an alternate repairer that would be.

I'll be honest and say I'd of lost all interest in this car by now, I'd have it on Autotrader the day I got it back!
