Looking around 'Fibre Home Phone Service' looks like BT's offering based on Openreach's Fibre Voice Access (FVA).

FVA appears to be VoIP but run separately through openreach's network rather than being treated as general data as VoIP would normally be. Looking at Openreach's price list they charge ISPs £3.60 more per year for FTTP   FVA line rental compared with FTTP only line rental so it should be pretty cost effective, although I haven't looked into what the different ISPs are charging.

I believe Openreach have dropped or are soon dropping the battery backup from the ONT on new installs so there's a good chance you won't get one. Other FTTP networks never provided it in the first place.

If you need that functionality then expect to buy your own UPS to keep your phone and router running during a power cut.

But FTTP needs the battery backup in the ONT doesn’t it? Keeping the router going won’t help and IIRC it isn’t the same thing as providing a UPS to power the ONT/modem?

That FVA seems to be what I mentioned our equivalent of BT here offer - the TEL port on the ONT has a different data traffic class (they use words like dedicated) feeding a built in ATA so you get VOIP but delivers it using TC-1 (top priority) data (most likely). Hence they charge more than a VOIP service over an ATA connected to the normal data which is likely to be TC-4 (best effort) over the data port in the ONT from say the router.

Yeah, I guess you'd have to plug the ONT into the UPS as well.

Obviously I live on the other side of the world so am not familiar with BT nutty plan names but.....

Their website suggests they have dropped the “1” from the lowest FTTP plan name. FTTC plans are I think called fibre broadband and not super fast.

If you are FTTP can’t you ask and pay for the higher speed plans once connected? FTTP can do any of the plans speed wise so once you have it you can go to Superfast fibre 2 for example which seems to match the offering of that cancelled plan. Faster actually.

Anyway it looks like FTTP still to me. It says changing from FTTC-FTTP and FTTP is the “active” service. It might even be done and you need them to simply light it up. Did they install the fibre yet? I can’t remember.

My original FTTC was cut off at scheduled date of FTTP going live even though no FTTP had been carried out.
They put me on copper for a couple of weeks whilst considering options. The system would not let them reinstate my FTTC while I had an open order for FTTP so they supplied me with FTTC on a dummy account and kept the FTTP order open. Openreach quoted my supplier, BT to install FTTP and wanted reimbursement of extraordinary costs. BT have said they will pay them but have had difficulty getting the instructions into the system. The last I heard they thought they had achieved that and I am due an update on Monday. Today my Orders have all changed on my consumer portal. If there is any logic to that job code it seems to be a FTTP instal but who knows. And yes they were starting me off at a lower speed on FTTP, about 60Mbps which was higher than the FTTC band, about 40 and much higher than my actual FTTC speed of about 16.
