I can confirm that the tpa-1 arrived safely today.
In the process of calibrating now.

Well, my first impressions are the reds look normal, proper red now instead of a strange crimson shade. That alone would be worth the money.

How do you guys set up different sources? Say gaming over sky? It's all very confusing for me!

Kev12 Publish time 1-12-2019 22:38:33

It does look better, I had the same bluish tint as vipergrm, thats gone. Skin tones look right and there seems to be plenty of shadow detail. I'm quite impressed.

Vipergrm, do you just do it for Hollywood Pro, or do you calibrate each input and picture mode?
The book is a bit vague to say the least.

If using the TPA-1 is it possible to change ones mind and for example
change the gamma value or rise the saturation of cyan? Still leaving all other to "calibrated"?

Kev12 Publish time 1-12-2019 22:38:34

You can set gamma value, I set it to 2.2 as per the AVF review by David. Not sure about the secondary colours, and I can't check til the morning now, wife's got to the remote.

Thanks! The idea is if you can change individual settings after that you done the calibration. Do not mess anything up because of me though data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Yes you do the calibration in Hollywood Pro mode. The manual states that you can then switch between different picture modes after calibration.I don't really understand this bit though seeing as increasing brightness/contrast etc will impact the gamma. If I use the set during the day when the room is fairly well lit I use Hollywood day and then Hollywood Pro at night. It is perfect for movies. I put on The Last Samurai just to watch a few minutes of it and ended up watching the whole movie! The level of detail and the natural colours were outstanding. Definitely the best 2D images I've ever seen in my own home.

I am considering getting this tv, i am still on the fence if i want to switch from plasma to lcd, but the chance i there that i will.

This Toshiba caught my eye, i went on google to find reviews and found a very positive review from this site itself, and also from Trustedreviews.com. The problem is, that no store in my hometown seems to have it. If i'm looking on their website...i don't see it listed there. So the only one way obtain one is by ordering it from a webstore, i don't particularly like this, unless they give me guarantee that i can return it if i really dislike it.

I got a few questions for the owners of the 55 inch version.

1- While the two reviews both say it's a joy to game on this, is it truly a great gaming tv? Remember..,i'm going from a plasma (Panasonic VT30 to be exact, but due to green blobs and vertical banding returning it) and plasma has fast response times, according to the review this tv is great with that too. But how are YOUR experiences with this?

I'm getting a new tv mostly for gaming, i'm a hardcore gamer, mostly singleplayer games and sometimes online stuff. No games like CoD though. For horror game i'd enjoy great black levels, by the sound of the reviews, this one seems to have that.

Basically...is it indeed a great gaming tv? And as for faults...i am absolutely a stranger to LCD's, but i always hear things like line bleed, clouding and all that...how does this one perform on that aspect?

And picture quality...in both gaming and movies, is it really that good?

Well as I've only got this probe for a few days, I'm going to calibrate all four HDMI inputs AND the HD tuner, just to be on the safe side.
