I can honestly say that this is the best 2D picture that I have ever witnessed. I am not a hard core gamer myself but I am certain that in Game mode you won't have any problems with input lag.I wouldn't use Game mode myself simply because the level of brightness etc is a little unrealistic.   The only thing that disappoints me about this set is 3D playback.Everything else is pretty much spot on.

Thanks for the reply man. I'm not sure but i think the reviews even said that in general the tv is fine for gaming, not even nessecarily in game mode, and that would be great cause i sure don't like over the top brightness. And brightness can't be changed in game mode? I'm hoping one of the stores has this tv here, so i can demo it myself. But if not...i might have to buy it online without having ever seen it.....ah well, first i'll go check the stores here this week.

Does anybody know what panel it is in the 42?

Its a dealbraker for me, dont want to buy a TV and not know which panel is inside.
Any specific info would be much appreciated.
Has anybody checked the sticker on the back?
Is it AOU or LG?

hi olof79,
as some users reported in other forums, it seems confirmed the 42" mount an LG IPS panel.

I see you posted this request over on the review forum as well data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

If you look over at Page 1 on this thread there is loads of useful info on what panels are being used.Only the 46" and 55" versions use the superior quantum black panel. Other versions are a bit of a lottery.

Sent my 55WL863 back to replace for a new one. I'll post some pics to compare backlight bleeding with the old one when i receive it.

Damn...if anything, i hope i won't get this. I've had enough **** as it is with my VT30 data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
The reviews didn't say anything about problems like that, but then again...neither did they for the VT30 in reviews.

There was a firmware update on 2012/3/24: WL863-19_5_61_7_001

Anyone noticed any chances? Don't see a changelog.

There also was one before that in the beginning of March which for some German users fixed some juddering but also broke the local dimming for a few (it got stuck and didn't react to changing scenes).

For me fixing 3D SBS and the CMS would be of interest. Don't think the red under-saturation can be fixed.

P.S. There's a new Toshiba 55YL863B review in the making and as the YL863 is technically the same, i hope for some new insights - especially if new firmware fixed some things and using the CMS workaround that HDTVtest did:

I've got a YL, and for me, the red issue has been sorted with the TPA-1 calibration.
Let's hope this new firmware sorts the SBS, which frankly, is pants.

I would love to know if the new firmware sorts SBS material too. It is unwatchable in its current state.
