I think this game will be highly entertaining - There's obviously plenty to do. I have pumped hundreds of hours into Elite; outwith the retail release as well, and that game is purely based in space. The fact that you can roam around and reap resources as well as fly through an infinite space means I'll get plenty of time out of NMS too..
It looks like an arcade version of Elite meets Star Citizen.. I suppose we will see more of it in due course.

Feeling more and more negative about this game.
The hype exploded for it and it is pretty obvious that what was a potential indie hit has been bought up and will be AAA gamified.
They are really going to have to deliver a lot now for that kind of price tag.

Anybody know if it's going to receive continuous development once it's released, like the way Elite Dangerous receives updates and add ons?
My main concern is that the world of No Man's Sky (catchy title though!) will feel empty and devoid of meaningful contact with anything other than rocks and RNG creatures that waddle and fart and not much else. I realise they've repeated the notion that most players will never ever encounter another human player, but I hope there's a way to track down players who may be a system away from you. For example, you land on a moon and see SRV tracks, the moon has a tiny amount of atmosphere and weather so your scanners can give you an approximate timescale for when they were laid down. Back in space high above this moon your sensors detect an energy wake or expended fuel, so now you have a general direction of travel, and let's say the human player passed through this system a day ago. It'd be fun to try and do things like that.

They should just kick the bloody game out the door and get on with it...
This game piqued so much interest (what was it, 10 years ago, now?) because it was based on fractals and had (literally) infinite potential. Nobody cared what you could/couldn't do, they just wanted to fly space ships and shoot things in a limitless universe of limitless exploration.
If they released this a year ago - Even in more a basic form - People were going to buy it regardless of completion/polish. The influx of extra cash would probably have sped up production as well.
Coming back to it again, the single-selling-fact was that there were (destructive) environments, wildlife, atmospheres, planets, galaxies - The universe - is based on algorithms.. The concept had people gripped. The more and more this game is delayed, release dates are pushed back, the penultimate result for them (Sony & Hello) is that they will initially lose sales. The lack of cash will probably hurt production.. I'm a little doubtful that their initial reviews will be stellar as well.
The momentum peaked long, long ago; that was the smart time to throw a public Beta out the door and get instant community feedback.
I mean, come on now... Ubisoft have been doing that for years, but they just haven't clarified it was a Beta version we were playing.

Watched some leaked videos of gameplay and it is like they have completely taken all the ideas from Out There (a graphical text adventure on iOS) to try and bulk up the gameplay.
Seems like it will be fairly boring, just lots of scanning for1 upgrades and farming materials, with little cause for adventure.
Getting anywhere also took ages, lots of time sinks in the game.
