Most people should stop trying to make it a multiplayer game and take it for what it actually is. A single player game with minor player interaction. I'm not expecting to bump into anyone that's for sure.

Still not sure whether it's possible to actually fly over the planet terrain or whether it's a locked sequence (footage suggests it's locked, but reviews seem to suggest otherwise). Does anyone have (or tried)the PS4 version? Hmmm....perhaps the wrong forum for that question! data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Eurogamer has loads of PS4 footage up, I'm sure it showed them taking off and flying around a bit over the surface. Looks like stuff like space station docking is all locked in, as well as when you actually decide to land somewhere, otherwise it's all free flight.

exactly. SP means you can dip in and out as needed, which makes a refreshing change. i'm thinking of picking it up for this reason alone

You can fly all over the surface, but you are locked at a minimum height (maybe 50 meters up or so), landing is automated (just press a button).Docking at a space station is just a case of finding the hole and flying in there - the landing aspect is automated as well.

Not sure why anyone is under the impression you can meet someone in this game, it has no multiplayer netcode.

If you can pause the game then it is completely clear that you are not playing online, otherwise that instance would be paused for everyone. No idea why the devs have lied about it so much.

The twitter posts about the amazing netcode make me laugh, the game simply posts a query when the player uploads, nothing more amazing than a web server.

The problem is that the developers are making vague statements and not clarifying the fact. Based on what Murray has said before in past interviews, it's not completely unfounded.

That is why I am confused about why they lied. Anyone with any basics in networking can see that they have built practically a single player game.

I said this back on the 2nd page.

I believe the vague statements stem from them stating that when someone finds something, previously undiscovered, their discovery is then listed next to it.That record is then logged for others to see if they happen to come across the same planet, alien, plant or whatever.I guess some took this as 'multiplayer' and I remember in a video when asked directly "Can you meet other people", he never actually answered the question, but skirted around it by saying "People will never meet as we've got 258 godzillion systems".He frankly should have come clean and stated that in the off chance of two people being in the same area at the same time, they are effectively going to be in their own little instance of the game and won't see each other, even if it is a 'shared' galaxy to a small degree.

From watching streams of it, some are really enjoying the game, others I doubt will play past the 10 hour mark.Personally I'm undecided, some things in it I like but it kind of reminds me a little of Clicker Heroes .. it's the kind of game that really goes nowhere, but you're compelled to play it to unlock the next upgrade, but then there is another upgrade and then another after that etc.I really do like the 70's retro sci-fi art style, but the whole game seems very instanced and because of that doesn't feel very big, just random pockets of planets separated by a loading screen (which looks like warp travel) whereby everything gets generated.I will see what the PC version looks like on Friday and probably pick it up when a deal lands.Maybe then extra content may have been patched into the game.

Someone posted a picture of the back of the box with a sticker covering the part with the PEGI rating and the symbol denoting online play. So it seems like someone was confused about that particular feature - either the publisher, the distributor, or Hello Games themselves. Strange one.

His tweets about 'server issues' and too many people playing (hence no multiplayer as a consequence) seem a bit sarcastic to me.
