2 currently pending sectors isn't the end of the world but it's something to be wary of. I've got a HDD from a friend to get data from as it failed in a laptop and that has 440 pending.

Is it never off? It's been on for very close to 385 days.

Seagate bought Samsung's HDD department. When I RMAed my HD103SJ it was with Seagate who were very good about it, I must say.

It's a huge amount of heat. In comparison the 3960X is a 130W TDP part.

Wow, 440 is a huge amount!

Yeah, my PC spends most of the time on 24/7.

As I said, I’m not that bothered but I’m glad I discovered it now rather than be unaware until it actually fails on me.

I’ve heard their warranty is really good so I’m sure I’llget it replaced no problem data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I got a WD Caviar Black at the weekend so when I get a free evening I’m going to use that for my games not on SSD, and then use the 2TB WD Green for media / storage. When I RMA the Sammy and the replacement arrives I’ll probably just sell it on here still sealed (which is how I got the WD Green).

Thats reassuring to hear.

Well this is a pretty interesting article, a seemingly good tangible benefit to putting 16GB in your machine if you run SSD:

Experiment: Can Adding RAM Improve Your SSD's Endurance? - Can You Get More Speed From Your SSD By Adding RAM?

16Gb of RAM helps a lot in cutting down writing to the SSD drive, which may have some performance benefits, but should definately have benefits to the longevity of your drive data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Interesting, but I do wonder if that is down to the reduction in usage of pagefile or similar?

Greg Hook Publish time 27-11-2019 04:11:33

Very interesting! I've only got 8GB of RAM because there was just no reason to go higher. I would have liked to see that article compare 8GB as well.

Cha1ky Publish time 27-11-2019 04:11:33

I've got 16gb as it as cheap enough to say 'why not' at the time.

Think i've turned things like page file hibernate etc off.
