Due to working away I have been unable to post until now.
I spoke to a lady at Belkin headquarters on 9/8/10 and explained the issue and the number of people I was aware had the same issue. I pointed her to AV forums to check.
She had received a call that morning from someone else with an issue with the PF40, who she thought was an isolated incident and had passed the info on (to a production manager I think).
I offered mine and the other ser. no.sposted on this site but was told that would not help.
I explained my disappointment that it had left the factory either without any or incorrect testing and how refunding my money was not an option as I could not purchase the same level of equipment for the same price.
I asked if replacing the plug would be acceptable, but was advised against it.
She requested time to look into the issue having just been made aware that day, before trying to resolve the problem. The call ended with a promise of contact as soon as a solution was available.
I believe a week should offer enough time to resolve the issue and will contact her again if I have had no call.
p.s.my incident number gave her the contact I had made to support, there was no record of my first call. Keep a record for your peace of mind as their records obviously aren't 100% accurate.

Interestingly if you use the email option and then live assistance you get a full record of the "conversation" virtually immediately and an option to print ( to pdf in my case ) hopefully I will hear nore tomorrow - to be honest its not the time delay that worries me..... more that lack of intregity in the responses - if some were to say and confim in writing "we know we have have a problem and we will replace / repair your item within the next X days" I think I would be happy as long as X was not excessive

I received mine yesterday, ordered from Ballicom via Amazon last week.(Just before they were pulled from their
website, ebay and amazon).Same fault, I have to say though, it's not that obvious from the display.I can see that
someone might pull it out the box, not read the manual and either not see the x or assume that it means it's checked
and use it as is.
Hopefully people will start hearing from belkin soon about getting these replaced / fixed.
Cheers.

Just taken a call from Belkin, bottom line is they have one unit in stock which is allocated to customer with a faulty unit and no others available. The only choice is a refund from the supplier or belkin.
Reading between the lines the units I am now thinking that the units were not drop shipped direct from Belkin but possibly from a third party autorised distrubutor.
Anyway the choice now seems to be refund or cut the plug off and invalidate the warranty

Thats VERY disappointing. My last contact was an updated ticket yesterday saying they were ready to arrange a replacement, have updated ticket this morning saying thats fine and will await further instructions or the new unit. I really do want a working unit as we got them at a cracking price, personally im not prepared to botch the plug as my equipment will not be covered by the warranty (which is a major reason for buying the product!)

Is it not possible to obtain the plug/cable as a part and replace it ?

Replacement cable would be good but I'd guess that would invalidate the warranty too, they've no way to know that the person they're sending the
cable to is in any way competent.
Disappointing that Belkin won't repair/replace though and are only offering a
refund, it's tempting to replace the plug, I've also wanted one of these, if only
for the power readouts data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I wonder if Belkin can get that part though and fix it themselves is you send it back to them; if you ask the right person in the right way you might find out.

I have been considering what route to take.Firstly I bought the products from a reputable supplier that is ISO acredited and been trading for over 17 years so despite the low price there was no reason to suspect these units were anything other than an end of line clearance, especially as the product is no longer on the Belkin UK web site. Secondly the Belkin clearly states repair or replace so asking them to replace the cable does appear very reasonable to me.
