Ah yes I think you mentioned thatfew weeks ago, thanks. I'll give it a bash. I've been trying to find the Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2013 which recently won the industry award and is a bit more at more like £100 but is not surprisingly sold out every where I've checked.

If you want to add a splash of water that's fine, but with ice the amount will change as it melts, thus affecting the dilution.
Also, as they're made from soapstone they're quite "soft", so shouldn't damage a glass - even a nice crystal one.
Personally Laphroaig is the worst ever whisky I have tasted, was given a bottle from a friend that had one nip out of it, now there is only 2 nips out of it in 4 years. May use it to cook or something.
But onto another cracker. This is my current fave.

Laphroaig and other similar whiskies are definitely the most "marmite" in flavour and taste. You either love them or hate them.
I used to hate them, then on my own stag do in 2003 I had a couple in a bar in Nottingham and liked it enough to buy a bottle of Quarter Cask Laproaig. I had two, perhaps three, drams from it and I've not touched it since as I went completely off the iodine, seaweed, aroma and flavour.

To my palette, Jamesons takes some beating.....
Try Penderyn Peated - it's much more subtle than Talisker. I also like Jura Superstition - I find it similar in flavour-strength to Talisker
Personally, I like Laphroaig, but you're right - it's definitely an acquired taste.....
Ok I will keep my eye out for ine of these bottles in the supermarkets this week. What sort of price would they be do you think? Around £20-£30?
I've got a bottle of the regular Penderyn but wasn't overly keen on it. I'll have to try and sample the Peated version.
Don't get me wrong, I love Talisker and was lucky enough to visit it last summer. It's just that it's at my limits of enjoyment of a peated whisky.
Smokiness I don't mind at all and Highland Park is my "go to" distillery and my favourite by far. One day I'll make it to Orkney...
