Bushmills for Irish whisky.

Have you tried Lagavulin? I prefer it to Talisker, a little less smoky.

It is about £30.

Black Label is almost always on offer in one supermarket or another so check online before making a trip. Also check on amazon.co.uk as they often sell whiskies at special offer prices and sometimes their regular price is cheaper than the supermarkets(just watch for delivery charges)
You should be able to get it for somewhere between £18-£25 depending, so that's a pretty big swing in how much you might pay.

As for the Glenkinchie, look at amazon again but check the supermarkets too, although not all of them will sell it, depending on which part of the country you're in.

Not for a long time, so perhaps I need to find a sample from somewhere...

Thanks for the tip!

I would like to get away from having it with coke so which would be the easiest to wean myself from the sweetness do you think?

Makers, Johnny walker or glenkinchie? Are any of these what you connaseurs (sp?) would drink neat?

JW is one of my reasonably priced go to whiskies, that said I think a bourbons tend to be a bit sweeter in my experience and might be an easier drink for someone used to having coke in there. Sounds like someone needs a whisky tour!

I may grab a Johnny walker and the makers mark bourbon over the next couple of weeks and see how I get on

Now to finish of the JD's data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Finished my Jura Superstition last night - need to decide what to replace it with.

Funny story a friend of mine went to visit one of his friends who is pretty up-market in all regards and particularly in Whisky. He brought out one many-decades-aged whisky - my friend thought he was in for a treat. The guy opens the bottle and says 'here, have a sniff of that' - then promptly puts the lid back and returns it to the shelf. What a tease.
