That's cruel! I wouldn't do that to anyone!

I've finally poured my Burns Night dram data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

For someone starting off with Scotch, when people ask, I've started recommending 'Monkey Shoulder' as a starting point. It's a mix of three different Single Malts - Glenfiddich, Balvenie and Kininvie - very easy to drink and doesn't really give you the 'spirit burn' on the way down...

Agreed, it's pretty universal in its appeal.
I've also found that a lot of the Balvenie range goes down well with most people as well.
I'm looking for a new bottle of something; Ardmore tends to be my usual go to, but I appreciate (and like) a wide range, it all depends on how I feel. I reckon I might treat myself to an evening at the SMWS soon and pick something a bit more unusual.

Oh god, another to add to the shopping list!

I was looking at makers mark this lunchtime in Sainsbury's I didnt buy it as i was worried about splashing £29 on something I may not like

I normally prefer the peatier malts, but I'm really enjoying the Monkey Shoulder. Think it's a whisky that definitely gets better with a splash of water.

Another plus1 for the Monkey Shoulder, very nice indeed.

Picked up some monkey shoulder from asda today, £26.50 so I thought I'd go for it.

What should I do, poor it neat and have water on standby to mix if need be? If so how much water? I'm guessing a drop or two?

Oh man, just try it and enjoy, it's not a science data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
Try it neat first, ideally in a tulip glass if you have one, with the usual procedure for tasting. I know it sounds pretentious but it does make a bit of a difference.

Then add a teaspoon of water and taste the difference - you'll prefer one of the two, it's entirely down to you which though.

Neat for us...
