Perhaps they will bow down to the people who are tightening their belts, losing their jobsand having pay cuts.

Most tax payers are there for all of their working lives. Hardly 5 seconders.

Being a tourist attraction sounds like a v.good idea. May become self funding evendata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Even if the capital cost is zero to the taxpayer and the running costs are made back many times over in additional trade for the uk?

Rasczak Publish time 26-11-2019 02:46:43

If that happens it can only be a win win, satifying all parties. Which is nice.data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Perhaps they wouldn't need to tighten their belts so much if they gave issues like this more than 5 seconds thought...

A new Yacht would sustain jobs in British Ship Production in the short term and, in the medium to long term, would generate trade creating UK jobs and wealth.

i would support this move, as it would provide jobs for the design and creation of the ship, and also be a good 'flagship' for the UK's trade and economic delegations.

If it was totally paid for by donations, and was self-sustaining - then it is a good thing!

If it was totally paid for by donations, and is completely sustainable, what does it have to do with the government, or queenie, for that matter? It sounds more like a commercial venture to me.

But I suspect that's not it. More likely, it will be subsidised by the taxpayers, and crewed and maintained by the navy. And all so that a handful of toffs can mess about on the high seas in an expensive yacht and relive the days when Britain was master of the waves.

Utter waste of public money, if you ask me. If a bunch of toffs want to buy a yacht, nothing is stopping them. Except that they don't - they want us to buy them a yacht.

I'd rather see any spare £60m go towards other community projects.

Indeed the Overseas Trade Board estimates that £3 billion has been made for the Exchequer as a result of commercial days on Britannia between 1991 and 1995.
