It wasn't even a proper proposal from what I've heard. It was just an internal letter from Gove to another department. It's the brief thoughts of one man and that's it.

As for should it happen? No, I don't think so, if only for a bit of public morale. If it is to be fully funded by other sources then they can knock themselves out but it shouldn't be funded from the public purse.

Gazberotten it's all quite simple.

First there is no money in the kitty for a lot of things thanks to the last government. £60 million though is sod all and would be used by sea cadets, would drum up business and would employ people making it.

It would probably also be around for decades like the last one as well. Considering we have £12 billion for the Olympics and £32 billion for a new train track I don’t see how the nation can’t afford what is the cost of one jet fighter to have a new ship anyway.

Stuff like this is for the benefit of the nation and to make us stand out compared to others. Having a yacht full of royals entertain a foreign dignitary tends to make headlines and to improve our business and trade. If you want someone to make billions of pounds in investment in a nation it’s a little above just taking their CEO out to dinner.

Anyway the proposal was by an MP and was dismissed straight away as well. The Queen never asked for anything and wouldn’t. As a nation we decide what she gets.

In the same way I'd also back us having some kind of Air Force One for the PM (even if it was Blair) so we could have a dedicated aircraft flying our flag rather than have our PM fly charter.

Both party leaders rejected it as a daft idea, so it's a bit of a non starter to start a soap box campaign about data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Latest reports suggest they are going to get a carriage clock from H.Samuel and the nation will pay to get it engraved.

Another own goal from the loony Leftie data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

This proposal would involve NO PUBLIC MONEY, and would provide training and jobs for many young people; surely just the sort of thing the left would support ?

Unfortunately the politics of envy and spite drove him to jump the gun, before the facts became clear.

Then again, facts and the Looney Leftie have never enjoyed a close relationship data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Have to admit I am with Sonic on this - a Royal Yacht would easily have paid for itself in business generated. As Cloverleaf notes this is just the politics of envy.
