And you'll find many more like them on the Tory Backbenches, but not as prominent in the media. But likely enough to make certain votes extremely tough for a minority Government to win (they may not even be Brexit related either). May is on a tight rope doing a balancing act between keeping the hardcore Brexiteers and Pro European side of the Tory Party from fraying. She slips with either side and she falls into shark infested waters. Unless Boris pushes her off while he zip lines his way into Number 10 Downing Street but crashes into the gates instead.

As far as Anna Soubry goes ? I doubt she'd care about losing her seat if she felt a course of action she may decide to take on Brexit, if she feels it's in the national interest. MP's are meant to be independent minded, take on board what voters say but crucially go with their gut feeling which may not be to the voters liking. But hey ho, General Elections are basically MP's getting a job appraisal with the possibility of being sacked. The craven MP's will go with whatever is popular to try and keep a seat.

Basically, no one knows labour's position on Brexit, because if you ask 10 members of Corbyn's team you will get 10 different answers.
This is Corbyn's problem. The only way he can stay popular is if his supporters believe he is behind them even though they may have views that are 180 degrees apart.
A leader is supposed to lead. He should define labours position from the top.

Sourbry & comay be arrogant enough to believe they know what is in the national interest better than their constituents, and may be willing to lose their seats over Brexit. But, I would wager that none of them would consider a Corbyn government to be in the national interest.

One I saw showed Corbyn saying that he didn't want a single market as part of the Brexit deal because he wanted to protect and develop jobs for UK Nationals.

Corbyn also has to keep in mind that a good number of Labour strongholds voted to leave - everyone talks as if Brexit is a Tory thing - it's not, it has a stronger Labour following.

Cheers,

Nigel

And that's why they have ducked a Brexit debate - they have got dripping wet metropolitan elite middle class liberals like Keir Starmer at one end, and Dennis Skinner at the other.

I think this is about self preservation for May.

The only thing keeping her in her job, is the need for consistent leadership during the Brexit negotiations. If she can stretch these out for an additional two years, then she might just manage to remain PM until the next election.

How strange that the party who squealed like stuck pigs for an A50 vote in parliament, and also a parliamentary vote at the end of the negotiations, are completely avoiding a vote on brexit at their own conference.

Still, principled, man of the people, consistent leader of course.

Maybe not but there is no doubt there is a significant number of Tory MPs who have great admiration for Singapore and see it as example of trade porno .Luxembourg is a similar state full of very rich people, great health service education etc.The only major differences being that it has the euro and very strict labour laws which means that no one is as impoverished and exploited as the poor are in Singapore. Of the two I know which one I would applaud the most

They are also a net recipient of EU funding . How coincidental.
