I used the same firmware for both my 32" and 42" models with no problems.  The 42" one would probably be fine for the 46" screen but it might be an idea to give Toshiba a quick call to verify first?

Hi there, it is the same firmware for the 46XV635D so download 2.177.2 from any similar model that is listed, such as the 42XV635D. It looks like the model number is simply missing from the list.

I have read through this thread and have similar problems with the standby button (and have occasionally had the HDMI echo problem as well). I have a 37RV635D which is about 15 months old.

I have downloaded the update from the toshiba website to a 16MB memory stick (which I'm pretty sure is FAT) and followed the instructions as follows -
1. put tv to standby
2. put usb stick into tv
3. press and hold down menu then power
4. hold for 10 seconds (after about 6 secs the red light goes off, then at about 8 the red light comes on again)
5. Release the menu and power button

after that nothing happens - the red light just stays on.

Has anyone had this problem, or can anyone see if I'm not doing this correctly. Ideally I'd call toshiba support but I'm at work from 8:30 to 6pm so their helpline opening times don't help me much.

16MB ? Are you sure ?
Go to my computer right click on it and choose properties. It will tell you the size and file format.

It is definately 16MB and not 16GB - It is about 8 or 9 years old. I have also tried the same with a 2GB stick formatted as FAT as well and it is exactly the same - should the files just be in the root of the usb stick - there is 1 file and 1 folder, or should they be together in a folder from the root?

I couldn't find a memory stick that wanted to play ball with my TV so have just called Toshiba and they are sending me out one with the firmware on it.

Despite the TV being a couple of years old now, I'm still getting great support from Toshiba

Sticks must be formatted as FAT and the files should be in the primary partition.  If your USB stick has any password type utilities they sometimes sit in a small primary partition which the TV tries to read and won't find the firmware.

You may also find that olders stick may not work and some larger capacity ones don't work either.

With regard to file structure it should look like the picture below (file names may vary):
