I copied both files onto the stick & followed the website instructions, so far so good.
Going by the sound of it I should be receiving another Toshiba USB stick from them!
The instructions are quite a bit different from the 2.1.77.0 upgrade back in November, that was from a supplied stick though.

Is your USB stick formatted to FAT or FAT32 ? I vaguely remember having the same problem as all my memory sticks were formatted to FAT32

Make sure the size of the Stick is not too large we have found that a 256Mb stick works a treat.

Thanks for your help.

I was using an 8gb stick, which was formatted to fat 32,windows 7 wouldnt let me format to fat,so had to get a new card.

Got my self a new 2gb stick and the firmware works ok.

Lets hope this sorts the problem once and for all.

I already had a Toshiba USB stick from last November with 2.1.77.0 on it. I received another USB stick the other day from Toshiba with 2.1.77.1 on it and it updated ok. However, I called Toshiba today and they advised downloading 2.1.77.2 off the web. So I followed the instructions and unzipped the files to the first Toshiba USB stick and it wont work. The message on screen says "Update was unsuccessful......." Its 1gB and formatted as FAT, just as Toshiba sent it. I erased the old files before I unzipped the new ones. The files look ok, well, look similar to the last version. Another call to Tosh tomorrow methinks.

2.1.77.1 was a version sent out by their Customer Services late last week. 2.1.77.2 is virtually similar and you already have the fix but if you want to install the firmware you have downloaded then you need to download and follow the instructions from the website where you downloaded the firmware from. Web firmware installation instructions.

The files and structure look the same but the installation is different for the files on the web to the ones Toshiba send on a stick.

Does that make sense? It caught me out earlier.

I wondered about that and asked the chap at Toshiba.  He said ignore the web instructions as they were wrong, which made me wonder why they were there.   In fact when 2.1.77.0 started acting up, the Toshiba helpdesk said try re-flashing it both ways to see if it would work.  Obviously it didnt so they released 2.1.77.1 and then 2   I will try it the other way.  Thanks for the info.
