ZTE was banned for breaching US sanctions against North Korea and Iran but got a partial ban lift after signing up to demands.

ZTE inches closer to resuming business in US

I'm not aware other Chinese brands have reason to worry because Trump's main issue is with Huawei's network infrastructure business

Only for 90 days, unless there is a negotiated outcome or a further extension to allow existing devices to continue receiving support

They've already said the phones will continue to receive security updates etc, they just won't see newer versions of android, the phone will continue to work as it does today whether they sort it in the 90 days or not, it's just the newer phones that won't come with Google play etc installed, huawei are working on their own app store for a while as they seen this coming and have released a statement today saying every app will be supported and possibly work better than it does now.

Plenty of unofficial ROMs out there where you need to sideload Google apps and services separately. I wonder if this would be blocked in Android 10?

@furryhobnob that's just pr promises though and a Huawei os designed to operate within the parameters of the Chinese state means what for Western users? And no one actually knows where Trump's economic war is going.

I do not have skin in the game but anyone who has recently dropped a couple hundred on a Huawei handset and still within the cooling off period should give pause about what to do

PR promises from who? It was Google who said they would still be providing security updates etc I beleive, you just won't get updated to any of the newer android versions, I have a mate 20 pro and I'm not in a rush to get rid, if it keeps working like it is today then I don't see an issue.
If they don't resolve it after 90 days I can't see the mate 30 pro etc selling very well.

Huawei do not allow bootloader unlocking so custom roms etc.... is a bit tricky

As I said earlier both patch updates and software updates will be built using aosp by Huawei, google only provides the code (which is open source)

play services is updated using the store so in that sense not a lot changes.

The problem is any update whether its security or feature will  need to pass safteynet, google only grants this for certified builds, which aosp isn't.

Certain Banking apps and google pay require this to function, there might be a work around using tools such as magisk with root but on a device with a locked bootloader this would be impossible to achieve

edit... just read the mate 20pro has been removed from googles android Q program Android Q beta removal could spell trouble for Huawei Mate 20 Pro

looks like we will be stuck on pie if we wish to keep play service access which is pretty poor for a "flagship"

cheers

They are still up on the website? or do you mean the 5g launch which is due? I think both Vodafone and EE have pulled the P30 from this

Funny how Envirofone offer you £275 (down from £425 on Sunday which was crap anyway) for an unlocked P30 Pro but still want to sell you a locked one for £740.
