Even so, it puts doubt in my mind...I have a iPhone 5s at the moment but looking for a bigger screen at a reasonable price and the Honor is at a price I could afford.
I didn't read it quite like that. Sure enough it seems that the existing installed version of Android will be fine - it is future ones which may be blocked or limited in some way.
So current phones may not be able to update to the next version of Android when it is released.
Not sure how I feel about this. One the one hand China have brought it upon themselves as they do have a history of interfering with companies and their cyber espionage activities are quite significant. But on the other hand I don't like the idea that the USA can set out to destroy a private company.
I'm sure they are. The concern with Huawei is that the Chinese government has leaned on them to include deliberate backdoors in the hardware/firmware design. Not sure how well founded this supscison is but I would be surprised if the USA acted in this way with no evidence at all.
As a current Honor 10 owner this news is so frustrating! Was looking forward to the big launch of the Honor 20 in London tomorrow but now it seems kind of pointless.
Google responded on Twitter earlier regarding current owners of Huawei phones - Android on Twitter
Seems to me the emphasis should be on the word existing... I wonder how it pans out for new purchases? If I dumped my iPhone and bought the Honor 20 (As I was thinking of doing) would I still get full Google functionality like Gmail, pictures etc?
