For typical GAPPS, these updates are handled by the play store and not the vendor so as long as the device came with this installed then these will continue to update,
Security/patch and software feature updates will have to be developed by the vendor using the AOSP branch, main negative effect being delays in release, most vendors are not very quick to update anyway but I would expect this to impact the typical monthly security update cycle.
for handsets such as the mate 20pro EMUI 9.1 has already been released in china and is in beta for emui 10 (android Q) so I would not expect these releases to be effected either.
Beyond this I would expect them to build there own OS based on android along with there own payment services and store front, kind of like how amazon functions with its fire devices
My only concern as a mate 20pro owner is google pay/contactless payments, those who have been in official beta's with vendors such as Google/Samsung and Huawei etc... will know that this will not function unless the android software release is certified, which normally doesn't happen until it is final. I do find it unlikely that google will certify any Huawei release regardless of how it's built. |
