Well, to receive data your WU, you have to be connected to the internet.
However, when the WU is ready to be uploaded it will retry sending to the server if it is not available.
There can be problems though as explained in the FAQ...

"How do the results get back to you? Your computer will automatically upload the results to our server each time it finishes a work unit, and download a new job at that time. At this time, there may be problems if your computer is only connected to the Internet sporadically. We are working on better support for these cases. Only the console version currently works at all over a modem connection, and there still may occasionally be a few bugs with that."

Im amazed at the power the PS3's have,

488 TFLOPS to 30674 ps3's
154 TFLOPS to 161944 PC's

Thats a hell of a difference. How long does it take to complete a WU on a pc if it takes about 8 hours on a ps3.

400,000 WU on PS3 takes approx 8 hours
5,000 WU on my PC takes approx 2 DAYS!!!

My first PC WU is still not completed and I am on my 6th PS3 WU!

My PC is an AMD Athlon XP3000  1.84GHz 1Gb RAM
Apparently, according to [email protected] forums, Intel chips are much faster

But still... that is impressive!

And the fact that in just 2 days the PS3 Folding teams have done more processing than a good majority of long established PC teams is phenomenal!

Is there any way you can set the PS3 to start FAH to start automatically when you leave it idle for a few minutes?  Rather than manually going to the folding icon and choosing start?  Would be handy.

It really is a good idea - I just hope it all proves of some use!

It will definately be of use, its essential work and there is a huge amount of data to be processed. The project has already has significant acheivements. Check out the [email protected] home site, you can access it whilst its folding using the ps3 web browser. Loads of information on the project

Russd can you add the team number 54579 to the first post of this thread so everyone can find it without ready through all the post ? Also thanks to whatever mod made this thread a sticky

On a side note I just tried to add my 64 bit pc to the team. Installed the software and got it running. Its a fast p.c but its running a fair bit of software for my work, website monitoring software etc, its left running all the time for this.

Wait for it time to complete one work unit......

104days 3hours 57 minutes !

I think I will stick with the ps3, when it comes to processing data the ps3 seems to be very suitable for the task !
