It really shows that using all 7 SPE's help a lot, since the people behind the PS3 version of this program shows the PS3 is 30-40% faster then any CPU on the home market. But if you wanted to put a Cell CPU into a PC, you would need to buy a PCI add on, which the company behind the product, say it would cost you £7,000.
However since IBM still have an X86 contract, which hopefully will mean the Cell will be out for PCs on the home market in the next two years, which would mean one thing, better folding for people without a PS3.
But the only way a PC doing folding, could rival the PS3 at folding at home is if someone has a motherboard, which support 2 Quad Core CPU's. |
