I have posted many times in there but it is just too much about what I don't want and it does put people off from past posts in other threads.

The points I have been trying to make (even with my flippant remarks) for the OP is not to get hung up on fad diets, drastically over exercising or getting obsessed with facts and figures. Instead he should be getting out and just doing a bit of exercise plain and simple. Its a natural progression from getting into exercise, enjoying it to setting goals and working out and eating better. I tend to stay away from scales and go by how much better my clothes feel on me, that's all the motivation I need.

Where does the 15% come from and how is this accurately measured? stand on scales are a guide at best. Is this wrist thing actually proven? mines quite big and I have a long reach as well.

Whilst there is some good advice in the motivation thread I must admit I don't find it very motivating at all and can see why people get put off from posting in there.

To the OP, all you need is the initial motivation and the rest is easy.

I've lost 4 stone over a year, now cycle at least 6 miles a day and am far healthier and fitter now than I've ever been.

The strange part is that I've stopped eating properly over Christmas and I feel like absolute crap, I can't wait to get back on the wagon. Once you get used to the exercise and eating healthily your body will love you for it, so much soi that it's not a chore but actually the way you prefer to be.

Just find a hobby where you also get exercise or cycle to work etc, it's not so much of a bind to do it then. Also for dieting look at weight watchers, you can eat and drink anything you like in moderation and it makes dieting a doddle, especially with the iphone app.

Good luck.

Since Dunkle has a desk job how about some mlittle things? Small dumbells so when you have a break do some simple exercises with them. Even a couple of minutees help get your heart rate up.

15% is a figure I pulled out of the air, that is somewhere between "lean" and "good" level of body fat. You can measure your body fat with calipers. Yeah, measuring your wrist works, you can see a table to calculate here:

Body frame size? Small frame, medium frame, large frame?.

The workout thread is great for me, lots of high quality advice from experienced people. I've never seen anything other than encouragement in there.

Sorry but I think what he does while at work is a side issue.

I have a desk job, and I'm not overweight. Should the majority of people who have a desk job be overweight?

Its his eating habits and lack of exercise that are the cause, not sitting at a desk while working.

so has my mate (IT support) and he's in great shape. I suppose I'm a bit lazy when I'm not cycling play games/watch TV etc, could do with losing weight myself (and gaining muscle - or just move the weight around lol) 12 stone, 5'9" wear 36" jeans. All of it seems to be on my stomach waist and bum. Thought I was 13 stone but that was the crappy home scales, tried some decent ones at work and read 81 kg that's about 12 stone?

How about using one of these during your shift? After a couple of hours a day should strength your legs. Probably a good idea if job is sitting down

Although I guess if you come out of breath wouldn't be able to use the radio?

Well the running is more waking but doing around 30 to 45 minutes 4 to 6 times a week

I have also taken possession of a friends multi gym that he was getting rid of to see how get on

Not being a gym guy. Is there an app that "coaches" me on it. Found plenty weight apps but they all seem based around free weights and bar bells. Could do with something where I tell it what I have and it does me a training plan

I have found bau5 but it's more free weights than anything
