yes, on my warm ups my backside goes down to my heels - but on the heavier weights my thighs are parallel with the floor...

Why don't you try some front squats... Tire your legs out by holding a plate in each hand and do 100 bodyweight squats.. Or try single leg squats...

Parallel is minimum. I got a couple of inches below parallel but i can't go ATG because I just don't have the mechanics for that (long legs). I can pistol squat and I can front squat almost ATG, but I can't back squat that low without excessive forward lean.

18 sets of squats? Man that's crazy. I only do 5 sets, 5x5 ramped sets up to my max weight. If you do less sets you could handle a lot more weight.

yep, I suppose it is - but...it doesn't feel that hard, but the step up (i.e. 20kg) maybe a bit too much - 10kg I could defo hand;t I reckon...

maybe I'll try 90kg next week (wed - as that's leg day) - tho, they have a leg press...could maybe give that a go too...

just hope the weights arrive soon and they have some smaller weights so that the increments enable good progression...

Wow - think I'm going to have to inject a bit of realism into this thread for the 'normal' guy, you lot are quite the behemoths I see... (Only 5'5" and 60kg myself)

3 weeks into the Stronglift routine and I'm up to 40kg squat (initial target is to squat my bodyweight). Though I think it's going to be a problem for me soon as, though I have no problem performing the squat exercise at that weight, I struggled to get the bar on and off my shoulder as I train at home and don't have a squat rack (my OHP and BP is up to 30kg and just managing to do this 5x5, so lifting 40kg at the mo is a struggle).

Not sure how to play this one - might have to think about trying to fit a rack into the conservatory if I can or wait until I get stronger to be able to get the extra weight off the floor and onto my shoulder...

ive been training in the gym for about 3 years, but only recently got in to training legs. Always played football at weekends etc and thought that would do for my legs and I will admit I found training legs boring in the gym.

Since training my legs doing squats and lunges using the squat bar withweights I feel so much stronger all round and have started enjoying training legs. 90kg is where im at the moment, kills me lol, hope to progress soon...

York and others do adjustable independent squat stands if you are short of space. I use them at home myself. Good thing about the Yorks is they go low enough to bench under as well. Can find you a link if you like. Around seventy pounds I think

If you can get a rack in it'll make things much safer and easier for you when you start getting towards your heavier sets. There's nothing stopping you doing front squats if you're struggling to throw it over your head.

Are you near Leicester?

Thanks for this, right after I posted it came to me to google some squat racks, and found some that were exactly as you describe which could work for me actually, especially the independant stands which go low enough to bench as at the moment, I'm using my wifes step she uses for her step exercises to bench.

would appreciate it if you could link me to the product you suggest
Hmmm, never even knew about front squats so that's another option, thanks for that.
