Should be fine, I have a chimney with a lid, it doesn't give out much heat from the outside of the oven.

I'm desperate to take the car port down anyway, this might speed things up

It will. That's Physics. You could introduce a nice curved turn on the zip wire (through where the lean-to used to stand and instead of the midget hitting the fence they could land in a carefully placed paddling pool, safe and sound.

Then when you sure they've landed safely, pick him/her up and toss'em over the fence for good measure*
