Did you even read your own link?

The average public sector pension is £7,000 – nearly double the £3,700 in the private sector

And of course, you completely ignored my question about context.

7k for 45 years service would be poor. But of course the average PS employee will not work in one job that long.

When you can give some context, then you may be able to make a case the figure is not great.

But as things stand, the only context we have is that PS pensions are almost double private sector ones

Are those £3700 and £7000 figures correct? Seems an awfully small amount for somebody to live on. Even adding on the state pension only brings you up to £12000 and £15300*?

* Public sector pensions until recently have automatically opted you out of the state pension, so you may not have enough years to qualify for the full amount. I'm not sure if it was possible to opt back in at the same time.

They are correct.

They reflect most people change job.

I've got four pension funds from different employments. The average figure from each would not be a big figure.

But I'll get all four.

Are these figures for full time workers or the 'I only work Tuesdays' NHS admin staff?

All of them.

It's the average of them, plus people who worked there only 2 years, those who worked there 40 years, etc

Nice cherry picking there, private sector pay collapsed in 2008 while public sector deals were often agreed up until 2010-2011,

Making Public/Private sector comparisons is a little ridiculous. There are a huge number of variables that effect someone's pay and conditions that direct comparisons don't really work.

Seems to me that on here at least (and in my experience in the real world to be fair), you have a load of Private Sector workers with only anecdotal evidence or misinformation about what goes on in the Public Sector, which gives them a big chip on their shoulder.

To paraphrase most Private Sector worker suggestions to Public Sector workers every time we have a whinge  - "If it's that wonderful, come and join us."

I note you have been quite selective in your quotes, or perhaps you read things out of context.  I suggest you drill down a little more.

I can tell you from experience they were not.  Whilst the government froze pay for PS in 2010, the reality was that most pay rises were either non-existent or of vary small magnitude from 2008 on (that is for the average 'coal face' PS worker).

I worked in both sectors and had good contacts with both right up until my retirement.  I have both a private and public sector pension, so speak with experience of both.
