I don't disagree with the gig economy.. I think it's a great idea.

The link I posted is relevant because it seems the police reported their concerns to London transport.
The official letter statement and decision will have had many influences, and yes I'm sure the black cab brigade pushed hard as well, but with such striking real issues it's not surprising they didn't renew.

I don't know why people are so upset, it will force Uber to address these issues and come back with a better and safer service... which is good for everyone.
In Bristol, I wouldn't trust Uber to transport my kids because of these issues.. slightly different for wanting a cheap cab if you are getting "back from the lash"

That's the thing you can't take your pick nowadays it's all zero our contract self-employed or not even slowly moving up to the higher end of jobs the recent dispute  involving Ryanair I found out that the pilots are on zero our contract and the starting salary works out to be £20 an hour I could not believe that

There is always a choice Yes budget airline pilots don't earn that great, a friend of mine is a pilot and invested a six figure sum in his education as many have to do. But he stayed well clear of them, did commercial instead until he found a breakthrough with a major 'normal' airline.

But yes if a zero hours contract doesn't suit you then you shouldn't take one and look for something that is more up to what you want...Or even better get in control of your own destiny and be your own boss...

Yep, and as they're not an employee they have to stump up some £20k   for compulsory training. Along with paying their own expenses whilst staying abroad, with no guarantees on a return job.

Reportedly is the key here. The actual official letter from TfL doesn't go into any of such details. There is no actual report here or anywhere with what exactly the police raised concerns to TfL. There is a lot of mis-information as you can see in this thread where people suggest all sort but it is all opinion based.

It is a huge story, yet with very little facts...As such I'd like the facts to be released and come out and stop this from being subjective. I think it would help everyone and TfL can then use those customers who sign up that they want Uber back to apply that same pressure to correct whatever it is they supposedly haven't done...

Easier said than done what if the commercial airline is not hiring only budget airlines and you have children and u got to put food on the table what choice do you have then.

As I said, it all comes down to choice...If it was my choice I'd rather keep up my cockpit hours and keep applying elsewhere, but the choice may be different for others. There is no one answer fit all, but it remains a choice...

Wow good find! So 126 out of 23,000 vs 32 out of 40,000....

Neither statistics make me happy, but it just shows it is the same checks, these are ultimately people...

And it is a heck of a lot easier to trace a electronic money only, journey tracked service than picking up someone roaming the streets... I seriously don't get why some think black cab drivers are better vetted than any other licensed taxi drive in London. The black cab drivers have done a fantastic job in spreading fake news...

But saying it again, if it turns out that uber has broken the actual stated rules of its license then they should be given an opportunity to rectify that, and put under measures to prevent them from doing that again. I'm still awaiting any actual factual points as to where they've broken the rules....

Agree - with every Uber ride you have an electronic paper trail showing exactly where the car was at what time, flagging someone down on the street corner and shoving a tenner in their hand provides no backup at all - especially when it comes to the Police asking for a description of the car.
